A suggestion to all those planning to attend. Take your daily drivers - not your flash TVRs and Ferraris. The press will only pick up on the fact that a load of flash gits in fast cars want permission to speed. A bunch of joe-average Audis, BMWs, Ford, Vauxhalls including 4x4s and MPVs will have better effect.

If I come along I plan to bring the A6 commutewagon.

I'd be interested to know where else this has been advertised...

It maybe worth putting some signs up before the event... maybe persuade a freindly farmer to put a big banner on a trailer (ala the cheap specs signs)

I'f nothing else the run up will cause a riot in the press

If they're concerned about saftety, why don't they install SPECS and put up signs saying

"You are now entering a SPECS zone"

That way, everybody drives at the speed limit. Isn't that what they want

Its all still bollox - accidents will still happen. Speed Limits don't affect the standard of driving - real live trafpol are the ONLY thing that will seriously impact on the accident rate in a consistant downward manner.

This should be rolled out nationwide to get as much publicity as possible. This really is a great time for this to happen being so near an election as the press is looking for stories just like this to unsettle the politicians. Unfortunatelly I cant make this due to the distance but if one was happening in the south east I would be there like a shot. Just what is needed to eredicate these vermin with their hateful moneymaking Scameras.

I think we need to bring this down closer to J1 on the M4. They got 60mph speed cameras and a bus lane on the motorway for no reason. while i have driven down the M4 towards London, i have never seen a bus. whats the point of it, that lane can be better used to ease traffic flow.

We also need to start protesting against the speed cameras all over england, especially London, i know someone who got 7 speeding tickets for traveling at average 31mph at 2am through a SPECS camera section. What the hell is the world coming to. This was on Tower Hill and London Bridge. WATCH OUT.

PETROL PRICES????? 88 pence/litre. Can we have another massive protest against petrol prices like we did in 2000.

Is that 1 zone or 7 zones? Can you get done more than once in the same SPECS zone?

Contrary to my previous post, I am not an endorser of SPECS, I'd just rather know what the deal was than be on the constant lookout for some muppet with a mustache and zoom lense connected to a bank account.

Very best of luck to everyone taking part, and I hope it's a massive success, but remember - give them NO excuses to nick you...

No foglights
No horns
No bald tyres
No taking pics with your camera phone (not while driving, anyway)
etc.

Cheers!

If I hadn't already made plans for that Saturday, I would be there. Hell, I'm already trying to re-schedule so I can be there.

Lets remember though, the M4 is the motorway thats been in the media but the mobile van is a regular on the M20 just west of the M20/M26 split and just before Dover. Also seen it on the bridges at jct 7 and 11. There's also a regular on the A229 just off M20 jct 6 -usually between 10 and 1130-ish every morning.

I'm going too. The more the better

One question though: How are people going to know who's protesting and whos just going about their normal business driving down the M4?

Are we all going to sit at 60mph in the inside lane?

Anybody?

Saturday 30th? bugger..theres an Italian car owners meet at Weybridge and I 'll have to travel thru the protest to get there.
Still better at 50,won't get nicked.
By the way,Wilts scamera partnership today claimed the motorway cameras were a great sucess with only five speeders caught between 81/90 mph. What bullshit, they could have caught 200 drivers and claim it as a sucess too the spin doctoring bastards.

To try and give a quick reply to all these posts at once, the Express had an "exclusive" on this on Wednesday morning. I woke up rather quicker than usual to the radio alarm when I heard it mentioned on the review of the papers on Radio 4's Today programme!!

Since then, I've had more telephone interviews with journalists than I can count, and TV interviews with Sky News and ITV Central. All the coverage has, so far, been positive. I suppose my "mug" is becoming pretty well recognisable around the country by now!!

Perhaps the most telling point of all comes from this week's local weekly paper around here, the Wiltshire Gazette & Herald. They ran the story on half of page 2, and also printed the letter that I sent them on Sunday on their letters page. BUT MY LETTER DIDN'T GET TOP BILLING - there were 5 letters on that page this week about the M4 speed cameras - all criticising them!!

Provided that we keep the protest law abiding, reasonable and peaceful, we might actually do something here!! Not immediately - don't get your hopes up too high - the camera partnership are unlikely to say "OK, we've got it wrong, we'll withdraw the cameras on Monday" (I'm not that naive, and neither are they!!)- but, with a spot of luck and a fair wind, we might get the whole "camera partnership" issue looked at again by those people in government who matter.

Any change of policy, if it happens, will, of course, be portrayed as victory for "them" ... But then, well, it would, wouldn't it??!!

Well said and well done for you Robin. The most important thing here is for this demonstrattion to go without hitch or event.

It really cannot be stressed enough to make your sure all vehicles are in tip top condition and hope that there are no clowns present.

It only takes one max power muppet to ruin the whole protest and the scamera partnerships would love that.

If the tories are smart they could get right behind this swiftly and pick up a lot of votes if they take the opportunity.

As far as the police is concerned I cannot see whay they would object as their professional lives have been made harder as a result of the publics's contempt of scameras.

This would make a great subject on Talk Sport if anyone wants to mention it.
