Police cutbacks what a joke

Van and driver totally legal apart from a no smoking sticker, don’t mind being stopped and checked but £200 for a missing sticker ??????
You’re right. The priorities are wrong. But that’s nothing new, the low hanging fruit is always picked first, it helps with the stats.
OP u r a bad bad man. All manner of people left, right and centre are going to be lighting up around your van. 10 yo's are not going to see your no smoking sticker and just take up smoking right there. Billions of people just in your town are going to get lung cancer and emphysema. The £200 fine is way too small. We need to send a message. Lack of a sticker does real harm, unlike say knocking over somebody's 7yo kid and killing them https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/05/26/hands-...
... which is obviously less serious and hence only got 45% of the fine as your no sticker horror
U bad man. I don't smoke but I'm tempted to light up now.

Perverted justice further perverts itself. As long as those boxes are being ticked and fines are being collected from all of those dangerous stickerless vans, we, the general public can sleep a little bit easier at night knowing the police have their priorities in the right order.
Meanwhile, actually dangerous moped gangs carry on without any fear of being caught.

Not talking about the police so much as the country in general- we have too many people who don't want to actually produce anything when it's so much easier to check, criticise and fill in silly little forms. And then everyone wonders why we produce so little.Meanwhile, actually dangerous moped gangs carry on without any fear of being caught.

I did not know this !! But no one at our company smokes , and it all none smoking ! Why is a sign needed , do I need a sign for “no taking cocaine” “or “no shooting endangered species” it’s fking ridiculous to need signs for common sense st like this ! I had better order some no smoking ones might get a few “no murdering prostitutes” while I’m at it

There are laws against taking cocaine. There's laws against killing endangered species. The difference is that smoking is, essentially, legal, this despite it being one of the major killers and incapacitors of people. You can smoke in certain areas. So the signs delineate. Most people are confused by laws. If you asked a number of people what the law states you would get a variation of answers. No smoking signs make it clear where it is not permissible.
I think that's common sense.

But they are increasingly frustrated by the selective enforcement. And of course enforcement that most easily swells the coffers.
Next Tuesday they will be picking on old biddies under the Metropolitan Police Act 1839, for erecting washing lines across thoroughfares in the city and then on Thursday fishmongers will be the target for suspicious handling of salmon as per Salmon Act of 1986.
Those boxes are not going to tick themselves.

Our van just got pulled in dagenham the are police pulling all vans to see if they have no smoking signs displayed, over 10 police there, they moan about not enough resorces well my support for them has gone right out of the window, what a waste of resources, mind you they may get the proceeds of the fine £200, i am stunned
Who was issuing the tickets? Police, or another agency?I’m fairly certain this won’t have been a solely Police run operation, for the single purpose of checking “no smoking” stickers in company vehicles.

Indignant will remain indignant, people will see only what they want to see & supports their rhetoric.
