Do you live locally to the area ?

I do and I completely understand why it's a 20. Its a residential area, with a road that people use to cut out going through Bath, they use it to go through Lansdown and thence, onto the M4. Coming down that hill, you're already into a built up area, with a roundabout at the bottom.
I'm not sure why you're arguing it should be more than a 20 tbh unless you're being deliberately contrarian.

I'm all for speed, I live in the Mendips and frequently go out for a hoon, but I'm fully aware of where is safe, and where is not to speed and Lansdown/Weston isn't the place for it.
No dont live there but thats the point - you should be able to be able to be dropped in by helicopter and the speed limit should be right for the road.
It's not about it being a residential area but whether the primary use of the traffic is residential and the type of road

You wont find a speed camera on roads where they have it right smile

Do they not do an Awareness Course for helping you identify who is and who is not your wife, then?
Sorry but is that a joke of some kind?
There's a whole other thread about where people don't know who was driving it's easiest for one of them to fez up than admit they dont know

FYI virtually the who area of Weston village is 20mph and I can say with great confidence that there are more that ignore it than not....IMO the worst offenders are going past my house 8.45 - 9.15am & 3.0 - 3.30pm on their way to and from the aforementioned school.

Cheers.......genuinely no idea who was driving as we both use this road on a very regular basis..in fact it is impossible to get to our house without using it.

The one at the bottom of the M11 used to be quite successful, but someone wrapped a rope round it the other day... hehe

The M4 j20-19 is a smart motorway section with variable limits although the cameras are always on even if the variable limits aren’t in operation.

Nope covered it with - has PH forgotten the rules for setting speed limits
If it needs it, you can have a 20 limit at school opening closing times
For an all day 20 it'll be a street whose use is primarily residential
That looks like a road that's a route primarily into and out of town .

The number of people being caught by the speed camera is a clue whether they have it right

That camera is a long way up the hill from where the horrific lorry accident happened, I suspect the camera going in was to show the council have acted as a result. It should said the primary cause of the lorry accident was bad vehicle maintenance and not deliberate speeding as the driver was not prosecuted.

I do think there a legitimacy issue with speed limits and camera locations, authorities should have to publish the supporting justifications for public scrutiny.

No. 3 on A55, this is a populated area with sliproads in and off, that are both short and in close proximity. It is 50mph in an otherwise 70 dual carriageway. Most vehicles travel at 50- 60 mph, with the odd speedster. I have seen cars stopped by police cars also. However, the rest is 70mph and average speed cameras are monitoring this stretch. Many travel at approaching 80 - 85 mph around Abergele.
No. 5 is approaching the Dartford Tunnels which has narrow-ish lanes. The tunnel is restricted to 50 mph and just prior to this the M25 ends and becomes the A282 Tunnel Approach Road. Traffic from A2 joins the A282 as does a local road. Seems a sensible limit, there is a 60 limit before the 50 limit as the M25 briefly becomes the A282.

It must be just a local legend but I always heard the 50mph section on the M60 approaching Stockport was very active.

The one thing I can’t understand is that some of these cameras are in remote locations.

Ones on motorways are really out of reach

I can’t believe more of them out in the middle of nowhere aren’t disabled in some way more often.

After years of crawling through Kingskerswell on the A380 in South Devon, they finally built a by-pass, The South Devon Highway, only to make it a 50 limit dual carriageway.

It didn’t take long to realise that it became a bit of a race track, so with complaints from residents and the local Parish council, average speed cameras were installed.

Even when only one yellow pole had been put up beside the road, most road users were going along at 49.9mph.

Rumours soon spread that the system wouldn’t go live until mid March, so some users were still flying past.

Seems the rumours may have been wrong and these cameras may soon feature on the list.

Having done 400 miles this weekend in east Angular, I would quite happily put everyone involved in lowering speed limits, speed cameras, traffic lights on roundabouts and generally making driving needlessly stressfull against a wall and pump them full of lead.

No. 8 is up to 70mph over a 50mile stretch.
Have seen it being 50,30 and traffic lights when they dig it up but don't know if they adjust the cameras?
It does have a lot of joining side roads and a limited number of signs.

The M20 is variable limit around Maidstone, but for the last however many months/year has had 50mph average speed cameras due to "upgrade" works.

Living near Bath I get to enjoy most of this list smile The M32 has me a bit confused though as the cameras are very obvious.
