Booking a driving test for this year rather than next

Did a bit more research over the weekend.
It appears that DVSA will only let you book up to 24 weeks in advance, and open up appointments each week.
6am this morning managed to book my daughter a test for Friday 14th Jan, as the week starting 10th Jan became available.
Talk about added pressure to pass.
Well she did it, yesterday she passed with 2 minors. It appears that DVSA will only let you book up to 24 weeks in advance, and open up appointments each week.

Unfortunately her boyfriend failed last week and is looking to rebook his test. He lives on the outskirts of London/Surrey borders and closest he can currently find with a reasonable wait is in Portsmouth, about 60 miles away, so it doesn’t look like the situation has improved in the last 6 months.
He’s signed up to a couple of the cancellation apps and is keeping his fingers crossed.
Edited for spelling.

My son failed his December on a single mistake. Fortunately the cancellation app has managed to get him another test in February. He's a relatively experienced driver now so really should sail through.
