I don't condone driving without a seat belt on or using a mobile phone but adding AI means the seat belt and phone are probably just the start of what could be detected using a camera. A clean licence is rapidly becoming an endangered species.
Rubbish.

DVLA figures show that about 95% of licence holders have zero penalty points.

DVLA.

If you don't fancy going to DVLA for that data sheets you can read about them here.

So an all singing dance camera for speeding, seat belt and phone use detection at the same time

Not wearing seat belt - fined up to £500 plus up to 2 penalty points.
Using a phone while driving - fine of £200 plus 6 penalty points.
Speeding - fixed penalty fine £100 plus 3 penalty points.

Damn, you would nearly be off the road under totting up procedure from a single camera.
Deservedly so...
You forgot:

Resting head on hand, indistinguishably from using/being on the phone - Through hell to prove/fine of £200 plus 6 penalty points.

Friend had this issue, new Divisional officer swore blind he "went past on the phone." and reported it, then they would not have it that he just drove resting his head on hand, and came up with the idea that it never mattered if he was making a call at the time, as he could have been holding it there, or listening to a message stored on the phone, so he ended up taking the "damage", fearing worse if done in court.

Justice at its best, more drivers to face that fate with this AI camera I guess.

Are you so incapable of admin, controlling yourself and controlling your vehicle that you are not able to avoid problems?

Fines and penalties just keep going up. Seat belt used to be £30 fine.
The biggest issue for me is not the fines, it’s the insurance companies who use these points to cash in. Speeding for example. Everyone has done it at some stage, yet those who happen to have sped at the wrong time in front of a camera get penalised with their insurance premiums. Paying the fine should be the end of it.

That's outrageous. Some cars the armrests are perfect for resting your head against your hand. I would be livid if the police done me for that.

When the law first came out I got stopped for exactly that. The rozzers didn't believe me even after checking my phone, they actually accused me of having a 2nd phone!

The issue will be image quality and whether the imagery and AI is actually checked by a human properly before a ticket/summons is posted out. Otherwise there'll end up being a lot of tickets challenged in court and a lot of them being written off. I don't hate the idea in principle - anything which cheaply and simply helps detect mobile phone usage has to be good in my book. Less fussed about seatbelts, they should have to pay their own hospital bills though.

Aha! So two-thirds of people killed in road collisions in 2021, were wearing a seat belt?

Get those seat belts off!

Yes...you are twice as likely to die if you wear a seat belt...they have been lying to us all these years...

Couldn't give a fk if people dont want to wear seatbelts. Motorbikes and horses are legal and are more dangerous than driving without a seatbelt its just a money grab. I would support repealling helmet laws too.
While they let fat s still visit mcdonalds and let people smoke and still let them use the nhs we should have the freedom to make our own choices when we are the only ones at risk.

A friend crashed his kit car head into a tree at 60mph without a seatbelt. Ended up in a field, quite a distance from the wreckage. A bit sore but glad he didn't have the seatbelt on.

With that said, it's an exception to the rule. Seatbelts are 'usually' best.

Yes using a phone, no seatbelt, speeding etc is illegal and one death through either is one too many, the annoying thing is for the last god knows how many years all you hear about is camera for this camera for that, gonna clamp down on motorist for this, parking clampdown, charge more for parking, road tax going up because we’re the devil and the main cause of global warming, can’t drive down this road or that road, bus lanes, put obstructions in roads that are dangerous, charge for parking outside your own house, etc etc.
Yet crime is on the up, drug related crime / deaths, stabbing, shootings etc are on the rise. Wouldn’t it be better use of resource and money to concentrate on sorting those issues out as I’m sure there must be more deaths and injuries from that than motorists cause. But as usual we are mostly legit and so a very easy target to make money from.
Watching some of the cop programmes it would be better to drive round on false plates as the penalty for that seems to be less than being caught doing something whilst all legit.

But that isn't strictly true though is it, I have 3 points for speeding, 59/50 IIRC and it didn't put my insurance up when I told them.

I believe many don't do anything for one isolated speeding conviction.

Seatbelt Use is an interesting one ,

In a road car with windscreens in front , its a no brainer , and I wouldn't want someone sitting behind me unrestrained .... suddenly charging through me in the event we had an accident

I have a single seat Lotus track car built in the 60s and retro fitted with seatbelts , Had an interesting chat with an Australian who used to race these back in the day ,

Does it have seatbelts ?
Yes full harness

"Its up to you but My advice don't wear them!" ........................your sat with 2 gallons of fuel right behind your seat , , In a front crash the Suspension has a tendency to wrap around your legs ...............These cars were built by Colin Chapman ..for Christ sake ....built for speed not safety ,

Your best chance in a serious crash was to be thrown out ..........invest in a decent helmet and cushioned underpants .....and a bible

hehe
