quote:that's here already. The first cases have been in the news of towns using their CCTV to spot parking offenders :-(( Walter U
As for specs they use a unit made by 'peek traffic' that does the recognition and its all auto.. As for the storage its not really a problem... Think of the phone network... They have a record of every call ever made (so they can bill u) so that must be millions upon millions of entries... all they need to save is the reg, place and a timestamp.. maybee a pic? wouldnt be too hard to setup i imagine.. I think tho we have a few years before things start getting really silly.. like the cameras coming out that can do you for parking and **** like that!
quote:this of course would mean that they can track the movements of every car driving citizen - true BIG BROTHER STYLE.
As far as I know, the "authorities" already seem to be putting a vehicle number recognition system in place on our motorway system. It might be used only to track serious criminals or alert for stolen cars, but of course we've no way of knowing.
Just do a search for 'ANPR' or 'Plate Recognition' and you will find a whole host of companys offering vehicle tracking systems and logging systems... Most of the systems will work woth existing CCTV cameras so there is no way of telling what your avaerage camera is linked to... We are quite lucky at the moment as Specs uses its own specific camera, ir and posts so its easy (ish) to spot. But imagine when the normal motorway camera can be used for both surveilance and perform Specs like speed detection. Believe me this is just the begining...
These blue pols are all around my area in Scotland.
This trafc Master system graids the trafic in to three differens classes,
1: Large units
2: Medium units
3: Small units
The system grades the average speed for each class in turn over a period of time, so if car ! went through it doing 100mph then the next car went through it doing 45mph, this would bring the average down according to the speed of the following cars, vans, trucks andany other slow moving chicanes like tractors and diggers.
But I did here that this system can read licence plates and with the system armed with your number and the time you past the camera and it knowing the distance to the next camera, when you go though it, it check the time taken to go through the cameras and work out your average speed NICE BAST@R$SSS!!!!!!
The interest that this thread has caused prompted me to try and unearth more details to share from "Geezer" Dave's deep knowledge of subjects such as these. Whilst visiting him in the Sunnyvale secure hospital for substance abuse, Dave revealed the source of his undeniably feasible information. Apparently the TV program "The X-Files" is encoded with a series of subliminal messages that Dave can "tune in to" after a combination of his big blue pills and a half bottle of Johnnie Walker. Luckily for us Petrolheads, it would seem that a great deal of these subliminal messages pertain to the use of speed-camera related equipment and the Nanny state (an apparent co-incidence given Dave's recent ban for driving down the wrong side of the M4 in a stolen Transit).
Although a bit hazy from medication, Dave offered this glimmer of hope to all of us. Apparently, the software embedded in the Gatso camera was written by an Alien race known as the "KJF:N-CQR". These small green aliens have no need for the number 145 in their advanced future-state and hence the Gatso is essentially "Blind" at 145mph!
Dave recounted how his mate Tony had driven past a Gatso in his Astra (GTE 16v, "right tasty motor" ) at exactly 145mph and not been "done by the filth", hence proving this incredible fact...
Later the same day (after signing Dave's release forms) we drove to the spot on the A14 that Tony tested the theory, but sadly, the speed camera had been replaced by a bus-stop.
It's good to know that there are still loop-holes in this increasingly oppressive and controlled world....I’ll keep you all posted.
