So hopefully the ones on the A24 weren't operantional at the weekend. So whats so special about these new cameras and how do they work? What's with the 2 cameras and two sets of markings on the road?

As someone else has said it is definitely the same as the one in the pic posted earlier, they obviously just haven't turned it around yet. I again looked on the way home last night and the other posts look like they will be for flash units

I suspect it could be one of these - stick to 50/60 off the lights!!

A quick update on this for those that are interested

http://www.theargus.co.uk/display.var.2306674.0.on...

It looks like Sussex are going to be setting up arund 100 further camera sites, likely to be digital so time to turn the bike in to a track bike as riding on the roads will be just to risky to collect points

I would have thought to save lives spending £2m building things like roundabouts at poor junctions would have been far better, or even real police on the roads to stop poor driving under the limit., but who am I to say........

Not sure about this. if you read the responses to the article, someone from the SSRP bandit wrote at 10.30am to say the Argus had it wrong - they are experimenting with the digital technolgy and may, in time, upgrade all the 100 or so existing cameras over 20 years (yeah, right. If the reason for the change is that film is getting difficult to source how are they going to last for 20 years?).
Although she dosn't say there won't be a 100 extra cameras that does seem to be the implication.

The Buck Barn crossroads should have been made into an underpass years ago - as should the other crossings. However Gordon doesn't 'do' infrastructure so the money is hosed at his voters instead.

Agreed, it's a disaster of a junction. In fact, the Washington roundabout should also be a flyover with roundabout beneath it as well - it's one of the key snag-points on my journey North in the mornings.

I don't mind cameras too much - I know where they all are and enjoy driving the rest of the roads relatively safe in the knowledge that the Metal Cyclops can't see me and there's unlikely to be any BiB around these days.

ETA: I've never been aware of there being an accident there either, so it must be about money, not safety. Besides, it's only ever busy twice a day - the rest of the time that section is pretty much clear.

according to the county times the camera is for avaluation only and will not go online until its been tested, the unit is made by robot electronics germany, its advantage being it does not have film in it but a immediate downloadable image.
personelly i can only see it causing accidents as its hidden behind the sign for the pg turn off right on top of the junction.
a cyclist was killed at this junction a year ago so eyes on the road is more important than worrying about the camera

Ironically the cameras achieve exactly the opposite, causing you to focus on speed rather than potential dangers. It adds to the 'driver workload' when there's already more than enough to be dealing with.

I used to have this in my signature on another forum:

Seems very appropriate!

At long last, this story will be making it in to the Nationals, tommorow I'm told, I have been trying to get it aired since they first put it up, nevermind, all we need now is to find out the other trial site, there are three in the UK according to my contacts within the Home Office, however they will not divulge which Partnership has installed it, so anyone see one, get in touch, thanx!

HI PEOPLE THIS IS MY FIRST POST
is this cam not just a bidirectional camera, it just looks like they havent finished the instalation yet, so have it pointing at the centre,
also do they not have to alter the signage as the cam is obscured (i thought this was illegal) hopefully someone will burn this one out soon as it looks expensive.

This new camera technology was only written about in saturdays Daliy Mail, in Ray Masseys motoring pages, oh well I did try and get the papers on to it a long time ago!

If you see one of these new ROBOT cams, other than on the A24 or the A3, please let us know, it will be the third Home Office trial site!

The A24 camera looks as though it is now operational. I have just been past and it is now the bright orange and is facing southwards down the carriageway.
