How do you know?
(based on past performance of insurance askmid)

It takes just about as long to do it online as with the PO yet with PO you get a nice disc smile

Hello all I've just tax'd me classic online after a few beers to take the pain of the tax increase away.

Now am I ok to drive it tomorrow or am I still in dry dock till the tax disk arrives est next wed??
It depends how many beers you've had?

If you have drunk several crates of premium beers/lagers it could take you a week to sober up! beerwobbledrinkhehe

Tried to tax mine last week.
MOT expired. st ! Didn't realise that. It's ok though, as it is parked off road,
and not been used for a while. MOT'd on Thursday, nip down to the local post office Sorry, can't tax it, as your insurance runs out in a week or so? New insurance cert not received yet (expires 10th July).
Go online, and my insurance is good, so will be with me in 5 days or so.

Didn't a previous chancellor stick 5p on a litre, with a view to getting rid of discs?

In reality of course, it's a bloody good way of keeping tabs on Joe Public.

A pain in the arse either way.

They did get rid of that particular disc, they replaced it with the vehicle excise duty disc which is the one you are paying for now.

I didn't know there was a period where if your insurance is due to run out you couldn't get a disc. I thought if your vehicle was insured then that was good enough, regardless of how long was left on the policy.

Thbink the post office was been a tosser as I've had specific 48 hr policies purely set up to tax a car I'm selling/sold. SO think the bird must have been on her rag/training when you turned up.

As long as the certificate will be valid on the day the tax starts, a PO should tax it. Same with MOT, AFAIK. That is all that is required - the PO has no business telling you otherwise.

banghead
Usually you can go in with a couple of days short term insurance and valid MOT without a problem. All they need to do is ensure that it's insured for the day beginning the tax. As long as you can give them that assurance it should be fine. Go to another PO.

I did wonder, but shouting at some numbskull jobsworth through bandit glass is unlikely to be productive.
