How do you know? There's a massive difference between someone who has a glass of wine with dinner a couple of times a week and an alcoholic, similarly there a difference between someone who smokes the occasional joint and a "pothead".

I may have missed a few replies on previous pages - can you shed any light on how your chats with your son went regarding his usage? Have you or he purchased any books on cannabis so that a better picture and awareness can be gleened about the drug, and better informed decisions can take place?

I have made him very aware of the risks (mainly to him) that are present should he smoke weed and get behind the wheel. to my knowledge he hasn't smoked it at all. I would rather he chose not to and don't want to do or say anything that might give him the impression I am supportive of him doing so.

You'd have no idea I smoke weed occasionally if you met me. I'm certainly not "the type" nor a "pothead". Certainly not by the classic stereotype standards.

Correct. You think it could have been prevented with unreasonable measures vs risk. I think we should have just carried on, choosing our own risk balance. I'll agree we are poles apart :-)

Business owner now, but soon enough you'll be selling your house, car, family members and your back passage for a gram of the devil's lettuce, don't you know?!

I thought it was quite amusing to see plants being given away on the day Thailand legalised it for recreation!

Has it had any effects on local community where you are?

It'll be very interesting to see the statistics after a couple of years, in terms of how it has influenced - or not - alcohol consumption, violence, arrests and the cost to the country as a whole now previous resources will likely have been diverted to other avenues of crime prevention etc.

No change at all other than the choice you now have. Everyone local that wanted to smoke weed already did anyhow, and tourists all knew how to get it, Inc me.

Now, on Koh Jum, for example, one enterprising lad has set up a small weed shop opposite the laundry machines and next to a pizzaria. You can go in and ask specifically for low strength indica, like I did, and have choices. Before, it was just their sketchy sativa elephant weed only, for tourists. Prices are much more than the old outdoor stuff, but still relatively good value. Anywhere from £5 a gramme and up, for very nice hydro grown bud. One gramme lasts us over a week easily.

All that's happened is choice has appeared.

I hear the KSR is wall to wall bud shops now but then it is the KSR... What did they expect?! :-)

P. S. No, the pizzaria isn't full of stoned "dudes". Far too pricey for the locals and they've been smoking for ever anyhow.

Thais on small islands are generally too hard up to be mooching about stoned doing sod all. They are busy working trying to earn enough for their families.
