The last time I chatted with my FiL he was of the opinion that the virus was only being spread by people not following the guidance and if these people would just do as they were asked there would be no more lockdowns, restrictions could be eased and we'd be through this, it was all their fault so they only had themselves to blame for prolonging it. It seems to be a very prevalent belief.
But this is what they want us to believe, otherwise people will think the virus is not spread this way and they'll lose control of the population. They are relying on maybe 90% of the population not questioning the information they are being fed, it's a very impressive pysops exercise.
Why is the virus spreading ? What can I do to stop it? How can I protect myself and my vulnerable loved ones ? I have no option other than to agree with 21st century man's Father in Law - who by the way sounds like a very responsible upstanding citizen, who deserves respect.
So it's not being spread in hospitals, schools, supermarkets or workplaces where people are simply going about their legitimate business and with the best intentions following the guidance ?
Have you been in a supermarket recently? Social distancing is non existent, nor is track and trace. People are not following the guidelines
Yes, around 9pm supermarkets are really quiet
So how do you come to the conclusion people are observing social distancing? That went out of the window as soon as masks were mandated.

Those who are free and easy with the rules / regulations / laws seem to be living in a parallel universe. They are probably so scared of the virus and need some sort of cover to hide behind, so they invent a separate world to live in where freedoms are intact and nobody tells ME what to do is the cri de coeur of the inhabitants.

Alternatively, they are living in the real world where nature knows best, and is a tad more powerful than Hancock & co.

Are you anti mask then? Or want people to be better at wearing masks?

The reality is that a big segment of society isn't worried about Covid-19, but also don't want to get in tedious public arguments with random strangers or supermarket / security staff. As a result they pop on a bit of fabric when they buy their food.

If you removed the legislation tomorrow, a massive percentage of people wearing masks would disappear. Same with hand sanitiser, gloves etc (most have already gone from many places).

I think a much better approach would be to have a 8 hour (or 2 x 4 hour periods) where social distancing, sanitisation and masks were rigorously observed. Then both the staff and clientele would feel more comfortable. For the rest of the time, both sets of people could be more relaxed.

Seems to me that at the moment most are either frustrated / confused about the rules or scared / angry that others are less serious about the virus than they are.

Absolute codswallop.
Why would staff be comfortable, being (more) exposed to covid?
Stop being a manbaby & wear a mask when close to others. EG in shops.
It’s not a big deal wink

I wonder how loud the screaming and shouting would be if a relative came down with covid requiring hospital only to be told all the ventilators are already being used because those people also said "fk everyone else, I don't give a st"?

Oh look, another big baby. Most people I know do what’s right for themselves and their family. Probably like this chaps neighbours. If that involves letting the kid having some friends around in the back garden then good on them.

My family’s mental health and sanity is more important than you are to me, people like you aren’t my responsibility. Feel free to keep your distance though.
I know a few who "did" right by themselves.

one example is:

he's in icu with little chance of surviving now since xmas.
grandparents both with covid, one in hospital for near 4 weeks

rest of family had it too lucky not bad enough to require hospital treatment.

I mean I'm sure he'd tell you, if he could, how "worth it" it all was smile I guess his kids got to spend last xmas with dad and grandparents.

oh well.

but drilling into your thick skull is not going to be easy, hopefully you get away with it and if you don't, I hope you get out of your rabbit hole and change your thinking!

I suggest you don't bother wasting resources on vaccination too and leave it to someone who actually appreciates the situation we're in.

Chevron - ever heard of free choice? Everyone knows “the risks”. It’s called free choice.

Would I go and have Xmas dinner with elderly relatives? Probably not, and didn’t.

If they insisted based on their own risk assessment, maybe?

Should I be told it’s illegal and I definitely cannot by some bozo in Downing Street? No, absolutely not.

Undoubtedly a sorry tale, but don’t try and use it to try and prove a point Grudas. For every 1 family this happened to (which is like something off the daily mail front page), there are hundreds that didn’t end up in hospital.

I’m 36 and not fat. You can shove my vaccination straight up your arse, maybe it’ll get into your system quicker up there! smile

You’d be wrong, I mean I could talk about the Barber I knew who topped himself after being told he had to shut again but then I wouldn’t want to weaponise it. At least it wasn’t Covid though ey.

It's difficult to be 100% sure they passed it to each other at that premises.

And the Express is the sort of rag that would say 'think of the children' and slag a government off if they'd said no visits allowed at all, and conversely, 'don't they care, think of the children' if they'd stuck to the original plan of a 5 day window of visits..... frown

The biggest cause of death of men under 50 is suicide. Seven thousand (ish).
Covid looks to be under 400 for both male and female.
Lol. So your comparing the total all in suicide numbers with god knows what number of COVID deaths?

7000 ish in total = men and woman (2018). All age groups. By comparison over 100k died of Covid. 87 below 40 in the last week alone. wink

And we have talk of a lack of compassion rolleyes

Edit 400 ish for male and female under 50. Covid

Seven thousand ish is just for men under 50. Suicide

Re edit. Fair enough it's both male and female for suicide. Though the point still stands.

They all decided to kill themselves. Official records say that in the UK in 2016, 4,508 men and 1,457 women died as a result of suicide, but some experts believe the true numbers may be as high as double that. Men appear particularly vulnerable: in fact, suicide is the leading cause of death in men under 50 in the UK, claiming more lives than car accidents, heart disease or cancer. If it were a new disease, suicide would surely prompt a national emergency.
