Doesnt the Highway Code state that you should accelerate to the speed limit as quickly as possible...

The HC is only advisory...

Besides...the limit is a limit, not a target

I treat it as a minimum. Anyone driving slower is a target!

Hey..we have different target..you and I...

Do you know? I used to get speeding tickets and points all the time, but since the proliferation of speed cams, I've not had one. In fact, my licence is now clean. I love speed cameras!

P.S. I would respect speed limits if they were set sensibly.

Without doubt the most bizarre post I've ever read on here

What a load of complete and utter tripe.

I stop those who deserve to be stopped, and yes am civil to those I stop unless I detect the above attitude whereby my manner becomes one step above theirs.

This generally means being prosecuted. However, usually a good chat and helpful comments suffice. Respect goes both ways.

You can generally evade the strong arm by selecting Jags and Bentleys, since the possibilty of association with Masonic Guv'ship is invariably linked to such ownership.

It helps if you're in your 50s, unpreturbed by expansion of the midriff, generally gruff of manner, grey of follicle and pespiring mildly.

On seeing the officer arrive at the side window, wind it down and proceed to affect a strong accent commensurate with the less salubrious 'manors' of the capital: "this better be good, sunshine, I've got drinks with the chief super in 15 minutes...you slaag!"

I kinda know what he means though - with a laser diffuser & GPS system it's got to be far easier to speed with impunity than it used to be, compared to when you had to worry about traffic police everywhere.

Agreed there may be case law about spinning tyres and dwodc, but accelerating quickly - even with a touch of wheel spin - shouldn't be a problem to anybody, certainly not illegal. It's safe to hear where a vehicle is and be aware what it's doing. Due to the ever helpful EU increasingly quiet cars (and bikes) are a menace, particularly to those with poor sight who rely more on the other senses. Just pc anti-car pious envy from those whose cars can't wheelspin and would poo their incontinence pants if it did.

That's not fair. They are some good, some bad. As long as they target violations that are unsafe, they'll get my support (and, of course, assuming they stick to the law of the land)

Let me qualify my statement.

Speed cams are pretty easy to spot and one tends to know where all the local ones are. So most of the time, one can make progress at a sensible speed of one's own choosing, safe in the knowledge that it is extremely unlikely that there will be any trafpol around to see.

Actually, my opinion, which I am entitled to incidentally, is based on fact, and having not ever havingcommented on this matter before,I am just sick of reading the typically patronising comments from your lot on here which confirm my views completely

You're right Alex...

That's why we park down the road from Gatsos to catch those drivers speeding up again..

Amazing how many people still believe this. Went a long time OK along with the right to silence. Numerous laws place the burden of proof onto the accused either explicity or implicity. Motoring and Terrorisms laws are full of examples.

Alex, do you also love portable laser speed guns monitoring you from bridges and bushes up to 1 mile away?

IMO, there is a case where those who accelerate too slowly should be bollocked. I am talking about motorway sliproads. How often have you had to take evading action against those who don't exceed 40 on a slip road? ....joining and DEPARTING from the motorway

It seems amazing that we still have so many drivers who use the motorways in an uninformed and dangerous manner, even with the motorway training we recieve during our driving lessons - Oh wait, we don't get any in the UK!

Exactly. The trouble is if I break the law, I'll get punished. Whereas if a BiB breaks the law, that is not necessarily the case. A funny old world.
