We've got them around our way, proper pillocks of the community, same faces in everything, parish council, Lions, conservation society etc.
I got a letter from the police Speedwatch team even though myself and my wife saw they were not pointing the 'gun' at anyone. We had slowed right down because of a huge pothole so no way we were speeding.
Contacted the Speedwatch team and told them it was a load of ballcocks and the Wongas (all old wrinklies like in the old ads - I'm 69 so not being ageist) were just making up numbers (because they knew they wouldn't have to justify their report) and the Speedwatch bloke said he'd make a note on the system and it wouldn't count on the 'totting up' - three letters and you get a visit from the Road Team to point out the error of my ways.
Had the same. Spotted them quite a fair distance away (group in luminous jackets standing at an odd location) so intentionally stayed bang on the limit. Gave them a bit a scowl as I drove past and got the 'hairdryer' pointed at me.I got a letter from the police Speedwatch team even though myself and my wife saw they were not pointing the 'gun' at anyone. Few weeks later got a letter from the Police to tell me the Community Speedwatch Team had caught me at 39mph (in a 30) but they'd let me off and to behave in future.
There's no way I was doing 39mph. Malicious lying old s.

I meant the hot air from the critics of the scheme. It is a very good idea, and the folks that carry out voluntarily these speed watch duties are easy targets for others to have a laugh and a joke.
Yes they are probably retired, yes they are getting on a bit and may be a bit doddery, but they are concerned about their local area their lives are pretty empty and wish to do something about the various problems on their they think that they have a patch.
We are soon to get a speed watch in my local town following a monitoring period in which it was found that the average speed past a school was well above the 30 limit. According to reports in the local press we are not alone in this.
As this is PH I do not expect much favourable comment concerning a reduction in your speed, but a little consideration in those vulnerable areas on your journey will not go amiss.
Anyone who speeds near a school etc is a cretin. Yes they are probably retired, yes they are getting on a bit and may be a bit doddery,

The OAPs operating the device really should have stayed in the day centre...
Out of interest: if you were to regularly break the speed limit through one of these speedwatch areas, what happens when you clock up over 3 letters from them? Would plod actually prosecute this further? Are there speed/danger thresholds??
There's also another group who have been trained and certified to collect evidence of speeding (with a TruCam) which is then submitted for potential prosecutions.

I am truly surprised one of these types hasn’t received a good kicking or worse yet. Let’s face it some people have no respect for each other and would take great offence in being reported by some local speeding nazi and take delight in giving one of them a right good kicking.

Let’s face it if your the criminal type, probably on cloned plates and doesn’t give a stuff. Well it doesn’t take too much to imagine the outcome. It’s not like there police with radios and emergency buttons is it. By the time someone dials 999 gets a response and the available police are summoned this would be all over and done with.
I would like to think a criminal would at least think twice before assaulting an officer doing the same duty as the punishment is no doubt more severe.
Just my thoughts. I tend to just laugh at them. Pathetic tts.

PH is a discussion forum. Many new members join each week. Those posters, therefore, may want to add to an established thread to further the already miriad opinions already there.
Ahh yes that'll account for all the new members on this thread then. Or perhaps not.The same old st coming round again.

Let’s face it, if you miss a group of people standing on the side of the road wearing high viz jackets, in full view and are caught speeding, you shouldn’t be driving because you are certifiably blindBobtherallyfan said:

You overlook the fact that because they are unaccountable they have been known to report some of us even when we weren't speeding, i.e. they are liars. Why would they do this? My guess is; if they didn't get enough numbers reported they could not justify their existence.

Not really, it is mainly because there are many many tits that think villages are race/rally tracks and many villagers are sick and tired of these pricks going at stupid speeds.
There are many non motoring types that are tits, they live in villages and are scared by loud noises, many motorists are sick of them.yonex said:

For a record to be officially accepted by the police in our area, it has to be recorded by three separate people, who have to record the make, registration, colour and speed independently. That information has to be submitted with any physical evidence, e.g. use of voice recordings, paper records etc and this are then cross checked with the recording from Speed Indicator Device. In addition, Police officers are often in attendance as a further check to ensure compliance. If any of these records does not tie in, the Police are meant to eliminate the record to ensure compliance. Why would they do this? My guess is; if they didn't get enough numbers reported they could not justify their existence.
I’ve lost count of the number of motorists who claim they weren’t speeding, get abusive and then go very quiet when a Police officer embedded with us confirms the speed. They’ve not even noticed a police are parked next to us...that’s how unobservant some idiots are.
