This will be a huge bonus if this happens, as it stands I am limited to 750kg with a car but when I had my unimog I could tow approx. 24 tonnes gross at 45+ MPH because its a tractor.

Its not so much the cost of the testing that has put me off getting me B+E but also the time required for the training and test. I work full time so would need a week off probably to do it.

Yes it really is a thing.
Every day i travel on the M5 and every day i can guarantee there will be dicks towing stuff in lane three. This year is worse as the Benidorm brigade are paying us a visit down West.
It's always some meatheads in a wifebeater pickup truck towing a jetski or a builders van towing a pneumatic drill compressor with one almost flat tyre and a broken/disconnected lightboard. They know it's illegal, but it doesn't apply cos they're a shaven headed thug.

Here's the link to the govt consultation survey - https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/A8LD7P/

Skip ahead to question 20 for the B+E questions.

Indeed. Or an illegible "numberplate" written in gaffa tape / sharpie.

My "B+E" took 3 hours one day and 4 the next.

My "C" took 4 days total, including the test.

You wouldn't need a week off.

as stated earlier in the thread by someone, every day i'm on the M'way you'll see someone in the outer lane totally oblivious - or just ignoring the law - of towing in those lanes or even the speed limits.
as a generalisation most caravans i see tend to drive at 60 or just over, car trailers behind pickups etc closer to 70 so presumably no tacho?, white vans towing plant any speed and any lane and holidaymakers with trailers with pissy wheels again usually with the traffic flow and i have seen them in lane 3/4 on the M5 when traffic is heavy.
A46 today Freelander with small trailer, no plate on it, steady 68/69 and accelerating as i drew alongside to 73/73 'ish, took me 3 mins at a satnav 69 to pass him

If this is voted in it just shows how much of a joke all this test business is.

It was made a test “to make the roads a safer place” suddenly its not needed because we need more HGVdrivers.

Sorry I’m just annoyed as I had to Do the trailer test.
It wasn't though; it was one of many changes brought in to harmonise UK rules & licencing with those in europe.

What was the reason it was brought in in Europe?

Probably because most of europe works on the basis that stuff is expressly prohibited until it's allowed; the UK works on the opposite basis.

I'm an old git so have the 7.5 tonne entitlement - and unlimited ones are great fun!

But the later restriction got Katie Price some points, so it can't be all bad. laugh

Really would love to see the b&e scrappedcbren meaning to do it just haven’t had the time or inclination albeitbhsve looked at it a few times.

That said if it’s scrapped it’s a towbar on the car and a caravan on the drive. Certainly would love to have past my test a year or 2 earlier and had 7.5t entitlement

If training is required then why are many exempt based on nothing more than an arbitrary licence date?
Because havingbpassed my test in 1984, I might have been towing every day since then as a job. Why should I suddenly have to take a test that my test covered. Would you take away my livelihood just to make it safer for future generations. I didn't take a theory test. Would you put me back in a provisional?
We are not exempt. Our test covered everything But needed to cover. (Kind of)

I know you said "most", not "all", but surely that's not correct? France has VSP for one, and parking rules are a lot more lax outside of the cities than the UK's.
