Don't be a dick. It sounded that way to me, too. You can clarify your point without being a smart arse, even on PistonHeads.

Anyone who falls for these scams in my opinion (controversially) deserve all they get. It's sheer greed and fkwittery that makes people fall for it.
I really can clarify my point in anyway I see fit as the question was quite open and an overt attempt to belittle me.

As usual people are missing the whole point of the thread and trying to be "funny and/or smart". It's about trying to stop these scamming tts.

I disagree with you on the scam aspect as to why some, not all fall for it, but that's a discussion for the lounge, not SP&L.
I agree on trying to stop scammers, but disagree on your attitude and views on braindead idiots expecting a car for 20% of it's retail price.

Think about it, your response was a playground style tit-for-tat. This is pathetic. Any grown up person would react differently.

Why do you think these scammers still exist?

Surely anything that can be done to try to stop them has got to be good?

Like I said, I completely agree they need to be stopped, they honestly make my blood boil, but those who fall for it in my view, do deserve the outcome (briefly.. to teach them a lesson) biggrin

I think it's because eBay get money paid to them by scammers listing adverts
So you think EBay make it difficult to report scammers as they're benefitting from them ?

How does that work exactly ?

In a parallel timeframe I contacted them about a random car, I had 2 quick replies:

"Hi,
My name is Rebecca, I am a co-representative dealer auto - BDE TRANSPORT LIMITED. The 2018 Volvo XC60 is still for sale. This vehicle is in great condition, 2 keys, 89,998 miles miles, 2.0 D4 R-Design Pro SUV 5dr Diesel Auto AWD Euro 6 , Transmission Automatic, Exterior: White, MOT Status Expires: 04 Jul 2024

The vehicle has never been involved in any accidents; it passed all inspections and comes with a clean title. It is a non-smoking vehicle, has 2 keys, service history up to date, clear HPI, logbook present. The interior is clean and tidy, and the body has no scratches or dents. Our final price is £3100 limited time offer!

Since we are dealing mainly with transportation, please note that we don't schedule inspections/pick up at/from our location, but we sell the vehicle with a 5 days money back guarantee. The vehicle is located at our warehouse from North East Lincolnshire, DN32 8EX, ready to be transported. We acquired this vehicle from an auction, this is why the lower price. So if you would like to know more info about how it works, please let me know asap.

For a transport cost, reply with your postcode or full address.

I replied that I was interested and gave a random address, and received:

"Thanks for your interest! For purchase agreement we need buyer's name, address and best number to reach you on.

This vehicle has been checked by professionals and in perfect condition .
We have the vehicle at BDE TRANSPORT LIMITED along with the documentation and a power of attorney, so the transaction will be done through our company.BDE TRANSPORT LIMITED will handle the shipping, the payment, and the paper exchange. The deal includes delivery and it will arrive at your address in maximum a week, with all the necessary documents for registration. Transport fee will include the insurance tax and it will be £125 There is nothing else to pay, no extra costs or charges.

In addition, you will get a 5 days inspection period, if you don't like it or you find something better, you can just return it at our expense. Then I said I wanted to see the car and received this at gone 11pm:

"Hi ,
Unfortunately we don't have the possibility to accommodate an inspection/pickup/cash sale because we have only a warehouse in the UK. All the sales must be completed online. By law you get the right to refund or exchange if the vehicle is not as described or fit for purpose ( Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Consumer Contracts Regulations legislation.)

The only way to sell the vehicle is to ship it with a 5 days buy back guarantee. After we have confirmation of funds transferred, we will make delivery arrangements."
This sounds exactly the same as all the scam adverts on Facebook I have reported loads of them I think Facebook don’t give a toss these social media sites are getting away with murder. If a regular newspaper had listing like this they would be breaking the law it’s about time facebook etc were hovered by the same law

I agree, I've reported the "seller" on Fb, as a scam, I don't for a moment think anything will happen. I think they may actually be based in the US, or are US influenced, things like "clean title" and "Power of Attorney" are not really UK terms for car buying.

Hi sherbert, don't listen to those trying to belittle you, I'm on your side here, and you've done exactly the right thing.
I "stumble across" stuff often on the Web and if I have some free time I take a look, with no intention of falling for it or actually buying stuff,.
Alerting the public to these scams (like you've done) is great.
Nobody says Matt Alright is a dick for saying similar stuff on Watchdog.
Keep up the good work.

Belittle

Funny or act smart.

Sorry, it's simple you action fraud it or report it to the platform that it is listed on. Its not a dealer. A dealer owns actual cars.

I find it insulting when the above three words are used.

I'm sorry I offended you, seriously.

I'll let others judge whether:

"You honestly thought a SQ5 would be that cheap? Really?"

"The question is how did you stumble on to it in the first place? Really."

Are attempts at belittling me, or attempts to be funny or act smart.

Feel free to have the last word as I won't be replying to you again.

Have a lovely Saturday evening in whatever you are doing.

I think you need to seek help, you're clearly very troubled. This is not a dig, this is serious, from someone crawling out of a very dark place for the past two years.

Not sure how you deduce that I'm troubled? Far from it, very happy with my life, maybe your judgement is clouded from the very dark place you've been in for 2 years and you judge others by what you see as normal, same as for Hugo, I wish you well, enjoy your life and feel free to have your last word, but I won't reply.

So I reach out in kindness and suggest you seek help, then you talk down to me in that manner after complaining of someone doing so to you. My god you're an ahole.

Agreed. If its not the weekend millionaires, or the old money humblebraggers, its the permanently stuck in the 4th form OP attackers. They must be lovely to work and live with having mastered that special talent of deliberate provocation and then feigning complete surprise and bewiderment when called out on it. I bet they drive like that too.

If a scammer is going to write the postcode of their warehouse. They should at least choose a postcode that actually has some warehouses in it.

It’s interesting that postcode includes part of a football pitch?
