When it comes to work I am tasked by the public to respond quickly & safely to their needs & at times that requires that I use an exemption they have afforded me. An exemption to speed but not an exemption of my duty of care to carry that out safely. An exemption I will only use when the circumstances call for it & not as a matter of course in my Police driving.
As a Police officer they can also require that I carry a firerarm, CS gas & truncheon etc. All things that you can't legally, just like you can't speed legally.
What is expected of a Police officer (or other emergency services) in their driving is not what is expected of the public.

Internet fora are by their nature anonymous. If PetrolTed wants to insist that people declare who they are and why they hold the views they do then fair enough, it's his site and he makes the rules. Until that happens no-one has the right to badger anyone here to 'declare an interest', give their occupation, place or work, inside leg measurement or anything else any other member wants to know.

If you don't want to debate with him then don't.

So it may be that he is a police officer or a member of a security force of some sort, that doesn't mean he is a traffic officer. There's no indication anywhere that he is here representing any public body or company. I can understand people being curious about his job but I don't see that he has any obligation to make it public, any more than you or I do. He's perfectly entitled to hold personal opinions and that seems to be what he is expressing here. Personally I think this whole thread is bad form, and it is wrong to put Vonhosen forward for personal criticism just because he has unpopular views and is willing to stand by them.

I agree with MrsM, GV8S and apache.

Whoever he is, and whether we agree with his views or not, this thread almost amounts to the mentality of 200 years ago that saw daft old dearies burned or drowned just because they didn't agree with the way everybody else lived.

I am surprised that Van Helsing hasn't turned up yet with a stake and a big hammer, and 100 villagers with burning torches.

Very poor form for a forum that is supposed to be trying to maintain standards.

To a degree yes, but PHers are entitled to ask just as vh is entitled to maintain a a dignified silence on any issue he(/she? but don't think so) does not wish to disclose. Normal nosey behaviour isn't a criminal offence, yet, even on PH

Always found this person to be very helpfull on that paticular site, gave me some good advice last year. The site did seem to have more BIB on there/moderating the forums that Pistonheads.

Are you making any valid point in this post, because if you are it's lost on me.
I repeat I am not & never have been trafpol or involved with any SCP.

I regret starting this thread and I'd like to apologise to everyone, especially Vonhosen. It seems that I judged too quickly and got it wrong.
