Now that IS interesting as I believed cameras were not allowed by law to actually flash you straight-on. Video/record you yes, flash you no.

it should have one of these soft-sandal-wearing pinky flashes I would think..

well it was very bright, more than a personal camera flash... very nearly hit the kerb and my night vision was totally wrecked for the remainder of my journey (lancing). Very dangerous imho!

I think it's still in 'trial' status - they're not yet Home Office approved for prosecutions. I'd complain to the Scamera Partnership about it being dangerous (they blind you right when you need to be looking at the 'dangerous' crossing...idiots!).

Update please if anyone knows anything!? Is this thing active? Are they using it to 'do' people yet? Is it just being trialed? Went through it today and nearly had a heart attack when I saw a camera facing me and the markings on the road! Info please?

Speaking to the Sussex safe road partnership lot at Festival of Speed, they led us to believe that you will not get prosecuted. I won't be testing that theory out personally, so keep us informed if you receive anything through the post. You should complain though, especially as they are trialling the damn thing, some feedback about their camera potentially causing an accident rather than reducing accidents should prove helpful to them.

Have been in contact today, they tell me:
The new camera is called a MultiRadar S780 and we are trialling it on behalf of the manufacturers.
It will not be used until successful trials have been carried out and it receives type approval from the government. As it has not received Home Office type approval yet, it is not being used to record offences, just to gather information on numbers.
Hope that answers your query?

Well my friends, I don't know about you but that's a big relief to me! Hope this helps some of you others that were wondering, althought I have to say I won't relax until 14 days have passed just to make sure!

Got flashed by this the other day too. Frickin red beam of light right in the face!
I'm not sure if it flashes everyone as I'm sure I was doing under 60.

Apparently this type of camera has a much wider radar range and will know your speeding before other cameras do and take your picture as you pass smash

Just to let you know that I never did hear anything from the law (meaning I never got a ticket). Hope that helps?

Yeah, it ties in with the info that it's purely on trial. Still wouldn't risk speeding through it though in case they're making a note of plates on the PNC..!

Any news on if this camera is now functional or not?

Functional, but I can't imagine it's received type-approval for prosecution purposes yet.

Thanx... came accross it at the weekend... No flash but not sure if it requires one? Fingers crossed.

Yes it flashes - a pale pink flash right in your eyes as you approach, and again as you pass. Takes both front AND rear pics.

SO we have gone from cameras taking pictures of you speeding, to a device which measures your speed then takes a picture when you may not be speeding. What next a NIP just incase you were speeding. I feel this camera is a dangerous change in precedence.

Went past them today, they are now live, but you won't get points as under test, however you bare naive if you think they won't be staying ther, next part of the A24 to get them will be the stretch after the shell garage near the park and ride, this is where a lot of drivers (bikes and cars) go for it.
