Is it legal for someone to shoot a cat?
Discussion
Neighbours cat uses my garden as a toilet since she decked over it.
I asked if she could put a hole in her fence so it could use the allotments instead - refused. I made my garden secure as possible by blocking all holes/gaps etc, but still it got in. I worked out it was using her bbq as a step to get over the fence. Asked her if she would move the BBQ - refused. Asked her if she would pay for an ultrasonic alarm - refused.
Cat owners think their little darlings should be able to do anything.
After warning her I would do it, I put anti vandal grease on the wall it used to gain access.
I think she managed to get it out of the cat rather easier than her carpet. Pity it had to come to that but there you go. Don't shoot them though.

As Cheadle Hulme indicates - can't he/you have word with the owners of the cats? See if they are prepared to help?
If they won't, there are many deterrents such as soft spikes to stop them climbing on walls and the noise guns/high frequency alarms ....although when I bought one of these to stop a cat climbing on my car, it walked straight up to it and pi**ed all over the thing .![laugh](/inc/images/laugh.gif)
Apparently you can buy lion's dung and this will frighten the hell out of them.....but sounds a bit Monty Python'esque that you replace one load of sh*t with another and congratulate yourself????
Only other 100% 'will work' option......get a dog.

I'm not justifying anyone killing another’s pet but consider this: -
A cat owner considers their pet(s) part of the family, fair enough I would too if I had a pet. However, would you let your child go into a neighbours garden dig it up and defecate all over it, or scratch the neighbours car by using it as a climbing frame - no you wouldn't it just isn't cricket is it.
We wouldn't have cat haters if people kept their animals under control, by all means let the cat outside but has no one heard of a cat fence?

It is illegal to discharge an air weapon within 50ft of the highway which includes most gardens unless particularly loaded (pun intended) & firing anything in a garden that can be overlooked by members of the public is classed as a public place. I wouldn't advise using an air weapon or anything similar in a garden. Too much to lose.
The 50ft rule is not absolute, it is only if "by doing so you cause any member of the public, using that right of way, to be injured, interrupted or endangered."However I agree that unless it's in the countryside where you can be certain of that, it is not the case it is not worth the risk.

You've never kept a cat have you? No one has, there's the clue.A cat owner considers their pet(s) part of the family, fair enough I would too if I had a pet. Perhaps, as already requested, this should simply be kept to answering the original question, not descend into a I hate cats/I love cats thread?

My house has 2 gardens that back onto ours (with 6ft fences) , one has an old Alsation and the other a fluffy cat.![](/inc/images/censored.gif)

We have a small dog that quite rightly feels the garden is his and I have encouraged him to have a bloody good look each night in the hedges and under our cars to clear the bloody things off.
Not only do they attempt to kill the birds that come into our garden, they s

If I, or indeed my neighbour, let our dogs run around, soiling areas where small children live and play, there would be a bloody outrage. But because cats owners think its fine that my son finds cat s

After all its only nature isnt it eh? Dogs chasing cats and all that. I disagree with "its urban life", its not. I keep my pet indoors or in our garden, not out roaming. Not all cat owners are irresponsible but there certainly seems to be double standards when it comes to what they get up to. I dont see many owners clearing up after their cats outside.
I'd buy a couple of the plug-in cat deterrents that emit a noise that humans cant hear. Cats are ok just keep them away from me... (just to add I have an allergic reaction to them so try not to have any contact at all).

I did answer the OP's question from what I know about air gun laws and shooting (being a hunter myself) on page 2, I just wanted to stick my oar in
