Presumably the easiest way is to pay the £20 and say you lost it?
The easiest way would be to do nothing at all.

Like they’ve said, entitlements will be added automatically.

Having a bit of plastic with BE on it wouldn’t matter if they did decide to do a U-Turn on this, which I severely doubt they could / would.

Everyone panicking trying to get an unnecessary replacement is just going to put an already strained DVLA under more pressure.
Strangely enough, I have just updated the address on my brother's driving licence (literally 19:30ish last night) as we moved a few months back and is going to swap his UK licence for an Icelandic one so felt it best to have an up to date address just in case.

I've checked this morning, and his DVLA driver record has been updated with the new address but no new BE category under "vehicles you can drive". However, it is still showing under "vehicles you can provisionally drive". So unless they're putting it on the photocard but not the online record, I doubt that saying it's lost will do much!

Anyone thinking of towing in Europe will need to get the card updated, as I doubt the gendarmerie will accept the gov.uk website as proof of the entitlement... so there must be some way to do it.

Will be interesting to know if it comes back with B+E on it after the address update.

It'll end up on the online record, just might take some time. Try waiting until it shows before swapping it for the Icelandic one if you can - hopefully it'll transfer with it

That's the plan! He was very much not fussed, but then he's not really a car guy and has never towed.. but my logic is that if you can get a free entitlement then why not get it? It was just luck that we changed the address when the new legislation came in. I will of course update as soon as it's received.

I did my BE in 2019, so sadly didn't get it FOC!

Just to update this. The new licence for my brother landed on the doorstep today and it DOES have BE on it, valid from 16th December 21. It hasn't been put on his online record yet, so hopefully he won't have any issues when he comes to exchange it.

However, the DVLA has changed the design and it's hideous IMO!

I went online to renew my driving license but because My passport has expired I can’t renew it online.

I have got to send a cheque or postal order and a passport photo?!

It seems very antiquated when I can do just about anything else online, surely the have the ability to accept uploaded photos and card payment?

Are you grizzling because you let your licence AND your passport expire?

You'll need to send form D1 to them, good luck! My future BIL sent one off as his provisional licence had expired, he'd lost it and he needed to change his name (deed poll) and address. DVLA received in around 25th August and hasn't done anything with it yet.

The DVLA should really introduce a system like you've suggested..

I wasn’t too concerned about the passport and I’m still not, I held on with the driving license to get the b+e on it.

Worse things have happened at sea.

Agreed. Some areas are still stuck in the dark ages. Don’t lose sleep over it. BTW, if it comes back with the spelling you choose to use for licence, send it straight back!
