Taking your view of things for a minute, I could understand you depriving the owner of his jammer if it's illegal to possess one (are you saying it is?), but I don't understand why you would impound the car. What was the purpose of this?

Just being typically spiteful and nasty.

Yes, I'm sure that's it.

I can't believe this bloke has any friends, but we still do, even after we've had our jammers crushed.
Wonder if he likes being disliked by everyone?

N, it is not, Streetcop. When will some people understand the simple fact that until there is a contested prosecution of a laser jammer user for obstructing the police, laser jammers are not illegal.

Most of what you post is pretty sensible, but you don't do yourself any favours by sticking up for that Callaghan type. He's not Dirty Harry, you know!

....I'm not sticking up for him....He's a big boy and can stick up for himself, I'm sure...

I was just pointing out that jaming lasers IS at the moment illegal. I can also see the day, not so long in the future, when radar detectors will be illegal again.

Like I've said before....In the past when detectors were illegal, if people had the sense to remove them, before I'd got out of my car and and walked to theirs, to see only a couple of suction pads on the windscreen, then I didn't look any further...

radar detectors were never illegal. The interpretation of the WIreless Telegraphy Act which had been used to prosecute users was held to have been a wrong interpretation, meaning that, in fact detectors have always been legal.

even if a jammer was illegal (which it doesn't seem to be), how can the pigs* legitately hold the car for 5 weeks?

* I use this term, not in disrespect to the Police, but in reference to the pig-headedness of the theiving scum camera partnerships, who one day will be prosecuted for crimes against the people. Another word I may have used would have required a 'censored' icon. Begins with C and ends with T.

If we keep hearing tales like this, we're going to have all the proof we need that the legal system is wrecked, and the likes of SC are just parasites.

Steve Callaghan is on record (on CSCP forum) stating how easy it is to tell whether a car is speeding and how very, very good he/they are at it. I challenged that statement at the time. Now he's effectively confirmed what we always knew. Laser operators zap cars indiscriminately and keep zapping until they've found a victim.

Then why is he not sticking up for himself? I know you can't answer that street, it's just a rhetorical question.

Well guys that took some reading, (came in late) but what a read WOW.

My 2 cents GPS dectors fantastic, laser dectors super, laser jammers you need em !.

It appears to me that this is once again soft option policing.

I have a few mates that are are officers of the law and generally there good sensible guys, they bend the edges of the law as much as me and you.

But there is, and will allways be a hard core of hang em high officers that will do you for anything.

I understand your positon and the fact you are passing your own views and that of the Police Force. I must however STRESS the point that whoever supplied you with the information about jammers being illegal is WRONG. I am not disputing the potential for there to be an offence of obstruction etc. BUT there is NO specific law relating to the use of a laser jammer. The transmission of light is not even regulated by the DTI. This is not an opinion or a view this is fact based upon extensive research commisioned by my company. The researchers encompassed leading solicitors and one of the countrys top motoring barristers. The people mentioned have been involved for many years in the legality of Radar Detectors and jammers and were active during the lates 90's in the landmark case. I have also discussed this with a number of other solicitors including a CPS one !! They are all of the same view. The use of a jammer is currently NOT illegal.

Tim

If they were illegal why would the government be wasting time trying to bring in a bill to ban them if they already were ??????

Hiya Tim..

Thanks for your reasoned post mate...

I've never encountered a jammer and probably wouldn't recognise one if I saw one...so I'm up for education..

I am glad you have read my post as you seem to be a reasonable guy, I would not like to see you adopt the views of Steve and potentially overstep the mark as he has done leaving yourself and your force open to a lawsuit for illegal confiscation etc.

Bet you were pleased with your work that day. So the long and short of it is that you convicted somebody that wasnt speeding, probably stopped his ability to get to work for 5 weeks and jeopardised his job.

Expect you used the good cop / bad cop routine to trick the confession out of him rather than resorting to the use of blunt instruments.

I think everybody should say it, drive past 4 speed camera's flat out, Then everybody would loose their licence and go on the dole - the net result would be a massive problem for the country.

Speeding, but otherwise wholly law abiding motorists are a soft target for the Labour Government and well fed flatfoots the country over. Seems you can ignore rape, murder and child abuse if you simply take pictures of 100 cars in a morning driving along at 35mph. Our speed limits are antiquated and inappropriate for modern cars and the pace of modern life, it is probably 80% whom break them and 20 that adhere to them.

Good work Fella....
