The most annoying part of the A303? It's not Stone Henge....

If that camera is in Wiltshire then it isn't an issue. Wiltshire's cameras have been decommissioned for quite a few years now. Bit like the cameras near Solstice Park; the boxes are there but no cameras for at least 4/5 years.
Is this true to this day?Anywhere between Mere and Countess Roundabout is pants as is the Illminster bypass.
The A30 from Honiton to the Dual Carriageway to Exeter can be a drag if caught in traffic.
One long tunnel from Countess Roundabout to Mere and all sorted.
Motorists happy, greenies happy and local residents happy.
I'll get me shovel...

I always used to get off the 303 at the the road up the other side of stonehenge and then go through Chittern and the Deverils and rejoin at Mere. Shame they closed that road, you now have to turn off at the countess services and go through Larkhill. Slower than staying on the 303 in no traffic, but it's a nice drive and you can easily lose a lot more time queuing for all the 2 to 1 lane bits in between on the 303.

I've always thought it was pretty poor planning to have built Stonehenge right next to such a busy road.
How did they even get planning permission in the first place ?If they didn't could we pull it down

Or a big fk off fence so people on the 303 are not distracted by it

That would do the trick...The people objecting to the tunnel, what exactly would they propose instead?

I still enjoy the 303 and doubt I would ever choose the M4/M5 over it when travelling between Cornwall and London. Especially enjoyable in the summer months just as dawn is breaking.
I did a long stretch of the A303 at 4am on Friday, it was absolutely stunning, the stones were shrouded in light mist. I then did the return leg at 9pm on Saturday which was again beautiful with the sunset. At those times of day it really is a fantastic road and far superior to the M4. I live in Wiltshire pretty much exactly half way between the A303 and M4, always a debate amongst locals as to which is better if heading to London, most do A36/A350, A303, M3 aside from specific times when that route is likely to be overwhelmed. Waze, which is rarely wrong in my experience, will pick the 303 about 98% of the time.
