I was always taught on motorway driving that if a vehicle one had enough room to undertake then vehicle two had enough room to move over.

I was told that on my first advanced driving course 12 years ago and its always worked for me. If someone is determined they want to get past to save a second or two on their journey, it's no skin off my nose so back off the throttle, move over, let them go then move back out if I'm closing on a vehicle in my lane. Always better having a knobend driver in front so you can react to them instead of hoping they react to you.

As to reporting it, I can't really see the point. You surely must witness worse driving than that which you may or may not be involved in. Where do you start drawing the line of what is reportable and what isn't? It's all subjective unless it involves damage or injury.

I've had a dash cam now for 4 years or so, only ever taken one clip off it in all that time and that was when someone hit my car when it was parked.

Best advice, move on. Can guarantee the van driver has already forgotten about it and only person effected by it now is you.

Good post. I fully intend to move on once posters like berlintaxi understand (if that's even possible) why moving into the middle lane when in a queue of traffic makes no sense.

I can see your point about not getting het up when idiots do stupid things. But it doesn't mean I'm going to live in the inside lane doing 56mph for every busy motorway journey like berlintaxi does. Or smile at the chap who's decided he's next at the checkout in Tesco's.
What you’ll find though is that by moving left you often make better progress. This isn’t by constantly nipping in and undercutting one driver at a time, but because you’ve got a clearer lane, it tends not to bunch up and fewer drivers brake ‘ over brake when the car in front does. Often the lane to your right will simply slow s]down while you carry in at your original pace.

Whatever, the reasons for this, it’s clearly bothered you enough to continue to post about it and defend your actions a day later. The fact you won’t post the two minutes prior to this incident speaks volumes too.

Your comparison to a supermarket queue is poor, there is no requirement to keep left, or follow a code, other than don’t queue jump into an existing one. I wonder what you’d do if your queue moved slower than the one next to it and someone got served before you though.

I’d just take on board the comments and leave this thread alone OP. You’re getting all wound up over nothing.

Read the original post. Others are not progressing more quickly. I was keeping up with traffic in my lane and there was a gap in the middle lane the idiot van driver used to undertake me with and force his way back in the outside lane.

This (and the fact I will no longer be able to ever submit the video to the police) is the reason I'm not going to upload it on here. If people decide I'm not telling the whole story then that's up to them, I couldn't care less as I know I've given all the details. But based on all the agro just a still image seems to provoke it's completely not worth having a whole video posters like berlintaxi can jump on to criticise me for using windscreen wipers in an overly dyslexic manner.

Op - I asked to see the video early on, as from your description and photo it looked like you were lane hogging.

But I wanted to give you benefit of doubt and see the video. You decided you were not going to report it, but you’re now not willing to show the video in case you change your mind.

Forget reporting it as nothing will happen. Post up the previous 10 mins video. This will clearly show your motorway behaviour and if you are indeed a lane hogging moron or justified in your driving.

I’m still giving you the benefit of doubt, but if you don’t I’m going to have to assume, like the majority on here. That you have poor motorway skills and need a pass plus session on motorway driving.

Post the video or you’re coming across like a teenager who claims he has a girlfriend in another town who no one knows and goes to a different school.

However, as I originally said the van driver is a bell end and shouldn’t have done what he did.

So prove you’re right and shut up the doubters.

Op,

Don't post the video. There's no upside. Just.go to "my stuff", click the black x and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Your idea of keeping up obviously wasn’t the same as his. He’s thinking there’s a gap, I’ll undertake and nip in there.

Yes he’s been a dick, but life is too short to let minor incidents like this take control of your mind and emotions.

This is without doubt one of those threads that won’t go to plan. White van wins this round.

If YOU think it warrants it & you're willing to give a statement & attend court if necessary, give it to the Police & let them decide if they think it warrants a prosecution.

If YOU don't think it warrants that effort on your part, then move on & forget it.

Sorry but I don't need to prove anything. I'm fully aware asking for opinions on something which I've only given half the story on is utterly pointless. I've had responses based on the information I've provided which has answered my original question. I appreciate you may think I'm hiding something, but unless I upload my entire journey on here (he could well have been someone I'd had an altercation with in a petrol station half an hour previous for all you know) there will always be sceptics. And given I've been criticised for my spelling and supermarket queue analogies I'm sure I'd spend the rest of my life on here defending who I am as a person rather than people giving useful opinions on that van muppet's manoeuvre.

As usual on PH, it's the few keyboard warriors that ruin it for everyone else trying to have car related debates, so apologies but I don't want to get dragged yet further into that.

Too right! This is my last post on this (especially as the missus is understandably getting quite miffed now I've done almost nothing else since leaving work yesterday). On with life...

The whole point of a debate is to hear differing opinions.

People who think you were in the wrong are not keyboard warriors necessarily. Funny how anybody who expresses an opinion others are not willing to accept get classed as this.

If you don't want to hear contrary views to yours don't ask the question. If you think these views expressed are wrong you can if you want post the video to show that. Don't give half the picture and not expect people to ask for the whole picture, if you got to court you would have to explain a lot more than you have here.

Getting all upset and defensive when you don't get the answers you want maybe show you as being a bit immature and not really cut out for internet life.

As VH has said make your own mind up, only you were there to know what really happened.

Flouncing only gets you the responses you are now getting smile

Look at it this way.

Having someone who drives like an arse in front of you means that they will sweep up the unmarked cars before you do. Having someone seriously speeding and driving like an arse is a double bonus, because that is pretty much a free pass to go as fast as you like (as long as you are going a few mph slower than them).

When the motorway opens out and is free running, you can play games with Mr Van Driver. You’ll very quickly realise that you can control his speed - because, being a thick van driver, he sees the world in terms of “winning and losing”. He will not let you overtake him. So if you want to do 90, do it. He will do 95. It’s like having a remote control police car catcher 100 yards ahead of you. He thinks he’s “won” but actually his purpose in life is to run interference for you...

One of the wonderful things about getting older is a more relaxed approach to being wrong, admitting it, learning from it, growing from it and moving on.

You and the OP seem like kindred spirits. It’s ironic that you reference the van driver seeing everything as winning and losing and then go on to describe how you win at everything hehe

Winning and losing is about picking your battles. This one isn’t worth it. I can’t think of any interactions on the road that are worth it.
