Not suggesting you do.....but if you wanted to play games you could just write back and ask for a copy of the contract as Executor before you tell him the rest wink
I could have some fun with him but i don't want the agro or stress.

This other person I have been speaking too says that the farmer charged someone £7k on there for a son taking over his fathers caravan! Its ridiculous, it seems he can just charge as he wishes!

I'd say that was fairly on point. It essentially puts the farmer on notice to provide some documentation!

I think I just want out now, there is clearly no contracts in place (which could play into my hands if he plays silly buggers or threatens me with anything).

Me and my dads partner are going down there tomorrow to clear what remains in the caravan (which isn't much, some tools and a tv etc) internal fixtures and fittings can be left behind, we don't want them.

The plan was to clear everything out that we could, and leave the keys in it and then send him a letter early next week.

I could ask him for docs / contracts but I just don't want the hassle.

Letter seems fine, you can save the "estate in debt, you get nowt" bit until he's replied with his letter full of Comical Fees. Maybe drop the "no change in ownership" part, makes your plan a little more obvious wink

As someone else mentioned, try to avoid the farmer spotting that you are clearing it out.

..or he'll invent a 'scarpering' fee.

As executor you really should inform the bank you have located an asset which they may wish to pursue, then step back and let the bank and Mr grumpy fight it out.

Failing that I'd just smash the place up (internally) to stop the farmer renting it out. Or hide some fish in it.

Personally I'd be going down there with a gallon of unleaded and a box of matches, but then the grumpy git would probably come up with a 'conflagration charge'

Does HMRC know what the farmer is doing? It would be awful if they were to get wind of any untaxed income the farmer is receiving.

Thinking about this again - unless there's stuff of significant emotional value down there, I'd not bother. He's not daft, he already knows the situation, someone turning up and loading the contents into their car means only one thing - you're about to leave. Cue a noisy, aggressive confrontation that you just don't need.

eg, what's a used TV worth? £20, £50, £100? I'd rather avoid the potential hassle myself.

If he's as mean as you say, you might get a bill for disposal (even if he fly-tips it).

Won't the bill go to the estate that just so happens to only have debts anyway?

I haven't had a chance to read all the thread but i just wanted to chip in and say for the love of christ get rid of the caravan and or any ongoing financial commitment you might have with it.

There are many instances of sites having reasonable fees for years then they get purchased by haven or parkdean or even worse a bunch of blokes who like dags and the fees then rocket and youll be in a world of pain

If any contract was in the deceased name jingle mail the keys back after clearing it out of anything you want. If you feel particularly spiteful drill lots of holes in the roof so he wont get anything for it on resale.whatever you do, do not keep it get shot of it pronto.

If only you'd read the thread you could have saved yourself 5 minutes by not writing a load of irrelevant stuff.

Theoretically yes, but Mr Farmer doesn't play by the rules so might bill the OP then start throwing stuff about when it's not paid.

If the OP doesn't fancy squaring up to him, then 'doing a runner' and ignoring all contact might be the best way out. Mr Farmer has only himself to blame for being greedy and unsympathetic.

Hi James,

I sold our static last October, and we are based near Bewdley.

We had used ours for 18 months whilst we built a house, and sold it to another person doing similar....

We put ours on FB.and sold it for 3k, and our van was fairly rudimental..

Buyer paid £500 to have it transported to Worcester.

Just some details for your consideration smile

Cheers

Thanks for all the advice guys.

Went down there yesterday and cleared the place out of anything and everything I could. Didn't leave anything the farmer could potentially make money off.

He did come round in his tractor delivering gas bottles to some of the other residents, and despite it being pretty obvious what we were up too, he didn't come and speak to us.

Turns out he now wants to start charging from October to October, so we have received a revised bill. For rental from April to October 24, then from October 24 to October 25.

Plus change of name fee
Plus electric bill (we paid the £60 electric as we knew it would be owed but it hasn't hit his bank yet hence why its on the bill)

Then adds VAT on!
So now the outstanding bill stands at £3k!

Very interested to see what happens when you tell him as the only asset of the estate, the caravan now effectively belongs to the bank and is nothing to do with you!

Worth also calling this guy : https://www.ndoecaravans.co.uk/

He’s a good guy and helped us out getting shot of a caravan once before.
