The motorcycle traffic officer said that the plate was illegal giving an example that I could spot have spotted him, altered the plate and then rode off and he wouldn’t have been able to catch me.
& yet the fact that you HAD spotted the copper & HAD stopped, but HADN'T altered the plate seems to have been lost on the copper.

I'm supprised people on here are taking the view they are. The OP had a device fitted to his bike that was designed to prevent the reg being taken. We all know why people fit these devices. So even if it wasn't working i'm not supprised at all if the OP gets into trouble.

If it was me i'd have removed it as soon as I got the bike.

Number plates completley ruin the aesthetics of modern bikes, especially full size billboard stylee ones.

When parked up off road / private land there shouldn't be a problem enjoying your P and J to the full.

There is no law stopping you removing your plates on private land.

I've no plates on my car right now which is safely tucked away in my garage. AFAIK i'm not breaking any laws...

personally I think riders completely spoil the aesthetics of a motorcycle. the plate is a 1/10 th of that spoiling

The original OP hasn't been active on here for 8 months so we can assume that either of the following has occurred:

A) He was charged and subsequently convicted and sentenced to at least 8 months imprisonment!
B) The offence was so deemed so grevious that after the evidence was examined by Her Majestys Goon's he was summarily executed as a lesson to all others who may be capable of breaking the law.
C) He's found something better do than hang around posting on motoring forums!

how did this end?
Ended up in court, spent 5 minutes in the hearing and dismissed.
They gave the impression they thought it should have been sorted at the roadside.
No feedback on the legality of the plate as i removed and replaced next day.

What a waste of money and time. No wonder this country is in the sh*te!

Nothing changes... another kid stabbed to death, and another nutter let out and next day kills.

Priorities and common sense. Where did we lose them, eh?

Copper should have simply b*ll*cked rider, told him to remove and have proper plate fitted forthwith. End.
But oh no, not in today's PC(sic) Britain.

Nice bit of selective quoting there, If you read the rest he means only to remove the plate whilst vehicle is off the road which is perfectly legal.
