Where are these millions of instant tests coming from. On Thursday I was tested for Covid in hospital, and the analysis was rushed through, but it still took two hours to get the results. This can obviously be only done for a very few people, Once again Johnson is lying.
Indeed, even if we have these mysterious tests we don’t have the infrastructure to administer them.

To an earlier point, Johnson has clearly realised that being PM isn’t nearly as much fun as he had told himself over the last five decades. He’ll oversee Brexit and then as when he can (slightly) plausibly say we’re out of the crisis stage (i.e. not before a vaccine has been approved) he won’t necessarily leave but I’m not sure he’ll put up much of a resistance to the tap on his shoulder.

How is mandatory testing of entire towns / cities legal?
It does not say testing is mandatory. It does however wrongly state they are accurate.
...
You are, of course, correct wink

BUT

How else would they realistically envision testing 'entire towns or cities' if the population (now compelled by law to remain at home and therefore available for testing) are able to just refuse a test?

I'm sure the Legislation will tell us when it finally arrives...

If it does contain mechanisms to compel citizens to undertake testing, that is (I believe) the first time it will have happened in history?

IN addition it does not reference that they are keeping on file the DNA of all those tested. THAT should worry you as much as anything frankly.
They are not even taking the DNA of everyone tested let alone keeping it.
I believe we may have had this discussion before?

I am well stocked up on Tin Foil wink but it strikes me as remarkably coincidental that the devices being used for testing are DNA-analysis machines (e.g. 'Nudgebox') that (IIRC) could be used to harvest segments of DNA related to C19 diagnosis that could at least potentially be used as an individual identification tool (assuming our personal DNA is sufficiently individual in such a short section of DNA that an entire sequence is not needed for an effective database to be created).

I am sure I also read that the machines used are uploading data to 'the cloud'. Given Hancock's awarding of contracts to Palantir at low cost, I do wonder where such an upload is going.

And whoosh, just like that any small amount of lingering credibility some people had has just vanished into thin air. The lunacy on display at times is staggering.

Leaving aside the shrieking of the resident banshee, there is no need for dark conspiracy theories. The incompetence is obvious, and so too is the venality of the chumocracy, which openly dishes out contracts to pals.

Another Prof, this time at KCL, is offering another counter to the views that have apparently panicked Johnson and his gang, but he is no more likely to be listened to than the other voices of calm. Panic is the order of the day.

I wonder what debate there will be on Wednesday. Labour will vote with the Government. A few Tory backbenchers might speak out, but the measures will pass.

That is itself perhaps a slightly trollish post, but I shall bite. One of the things that I find surprising is that some seem unable to deal with robust debate. The internet has encouraged a culture in which lack of rigour in argument is normalised, and the fallacy that an opinion based on gut feeling is equal to an opinion based on information has taken hold. It seems that the almost default response to being challenged in argument is to flush hot, start flinging ad homs and insults, and say "I'm entitled to my opinion". All very internet.

Do none of you lot ever have an argument in the real world?

I note that I didn't say DNA harvesting was taking place - just that it could potentially take place using the mechanisms being put in place wink - and that the suggestion is indeed Tin Foil Hat conspiracy theory territory.

Given this government's maximisation of the opportunities presented to them this year (ref: Sumption's observations on power grabs, the bypassing of Tender rules to donate vast sums of taxpayers' money to their mates, etc.) I am sure it has occurred to someone other than a shrieking banshee on a car forum that population-wide mandatory testing presents the perfect opportunity for such things. tongue out

Perhaps they are intending to copy Slovakia - either be tested or isolate for 10 days.
That way the test isn't technically mandatory, and the army would of course be on hand to "assist" people to isolate...

Ah yes, plausible deniability. I’m not saying X, but X is this and X is that and if they were going to do X then it would look like this, but I’m not saying it. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more.

Add to it a direct quote of an ad hom, to try to add some more plausibility to your plausible deniability and you almost have a get out of the tinfoil hat lunatic theory wrapped up. Almost.

I’m afraid on this one Unident, although Paul is talking about a conspiracy theory, he looks like a logical thinker, and you look like hmm, a contrarian biggrin

He is thinking out aloud in an open, honest and logical (if creative) way whilst you have gone out to systematically rubbish his post and nothing else.

Anyone with half a brain can see right though it.

Mmmmmkay, it’s a great national conspiracy to harvest our DNA and that’s the logical thinking.

The thread that keeps on giving rofl

What would you have said this time one year ago if someone had said to you that the Government would be closing down vast swathes of businesses, paying our wages, imprisoning us in our homes for weeks, stopping partners living in different households from having sex, and planning to roll out daily mass testing of the entire population?

All bar the last has happened so far, and that's well underway...
