You’re not as likely to die at 30mph, whereas you are at 60. I’d prefer to encounter this ignorant behaviour in a 30mph residential zone than coming across them on a tight and twisty NSL road - many more opportunities for safer passing, both from my own and their perspective.
So “not as likely” to see children dead on a slab having their organs harvested - that’s all right then.

Where did anyone say it was fine for kids to be killed in either scenario?

I was merely saying that I wouldn’t have given it a second thought in a 30mph zone because any careful driver expects many hazards, so seeing kids on scooters on the road wouldn’t phase me, and I wouldn’t have considered it especially dangerous.

I’ve encountered kids on scooters and bikes many times in 30mph limits and I can’t ever tempering thinking “wow that’s dangerous”, I simply took care to go around them carefully, as you would a pedestrian or anyone else.

In a 30mph limit you expect: Pedestrians, schools, crossings, cyclists, people walking dogs, children playing football in the road, people stepping off the pavement, joggers, kids riding bikes, people riding scooters, people wearing headphones and not paying attention, etc

I wouldn’t expect any of the above to become ‘organ donors’ in a 30mph limit unless someone does something really silly.

A 60mph A-Road is totally different. Drivers are not expecting to see kids on scooters in the carriageway. The speeds involved make it massively more difficult to stop or avoid hazards that would be easily avoided at sub-30mph. That’s what makes it far more dangerous.

So you don't consider that a child might get killed whilst riding illegal motor vehicles whilst wearing headphones, weaving about, and not paying much attention because they were only run over by a truck, bus, or SUV doing 30 mph.

OK.

Did you have lessons in how to be an argumentative ahole or does it come naturally?
Just curious.

So presumably you are another who would quite happily see a child with their head squashed under a tipper truck because they were riding an illegal motor vehicle and didn't hear the bus because they were wearing headphones and not paying attention as they were messing about with their mates also riding illegal vehicles.

Well I am glad I don't have to live with your views.

I'm confused, i really don't get whatever point you're making, it is a little puzzling, and could easily be interpreted as pretty unpleasant. Could you clarity, perhaps.

Some strange arguments in this thread. dheads weaving all over the road is their own fault whether it’s 30 or 60. But it’s much worse at 60 including for the poor sod that hits them.

Of course they could get killed in a 30mph zone.

Question for you:

Do you think a couple of kids on e-scooters are more at risk in a 30mph zone, or on a 60mph A-Road?

There are 60mph roads around me that I wouldn't feel safe cycling on. Never felt like that in a 30.

Fair enough, a lycra clad Jehovah's cyclist is always a welcome, if predictable distraction. Do crack on.

One of these days you may look back at the ridiculous comments you have made in the this thread and realise what a tt you have made yourself look.

You seem to be a little too excited and obsessed with the idea of dead children.

Tone it down and cut out being argumentative, you’re coming across on the wrong side of weird.

Wonder how long it'll take when they become legal for these to be the tool of choice for the aspiring phone thief, traditionally done by moped, these are virtually soundless and could be on the unaware 'phombie' and away again before they even know what hit them.

It became an issue in London last Autumn, likely worse now with the increase in availability.

Evening Standard said:
Nearly 300 robberies, assaults, thefts and other crimes have been carried out by people on electric scooters in London in the past four months, police have revealed.

The Met’s Chief Superintendent Simon Ovens said officers had seized hundreds of e-scooters modified to reach 40 to 70 mph in a new crackdown.

He warned muggers are switching to them instead of cycles and mopeds because they are fast, silent and unregistered.

Would be interesting to see how many have been caught exceeding the speed limit as in just the last month I've seen two e-scooters trigger a camera near to me that's set to flash at least 35mph.

Wow I'd not want to be on something where a large pebble could make me fall off at 70 mph

Perhaps. Mine is limited to 15.5 and I've had 20 out of it on a hill. I can't picture 35 on it or anyone even wanting to travel at that speed.

Indeed. Mine is also limited to 25kph (15.5 mph). Having seen 17 mph down a shallow hill that's plenty fast enough.

Almost every main road around here has a marked cycle lane. I have had no issue whatsoever using those and divert to side roads where I can as its more fun.

Was driving home last night in the dark and saw the camera trigger once again, I think it's the same guy each time as he has a full face helmet and leathers plus purple neons which is quite distinctive.

Tbh it's on a downhill stretch and I've seen cyclists trigger the camera as well so may not be able to go that fast on the flat

Possibly due to this thread I now seem to get curated news in the google Chrome phone browser about escooters, surprised this case that an e-scooter can weigh so much

Im all for them on the roads, just keep off the pavements. Saw one doing probably 15 odd mph on a pavement the other day and I dread to think how that could end up if they drove into a pedestrian or swerved and end up in the road in front of a car etc.
