Well, the Hayabusa and the ZX12R are electronically limited to 300kph (186mph). Without the limiter they will both apparently touch 200mph with the bare minimum of tuning (induction and exhaust mods).
The Honda equivalent is the Blackbird, which is not as quick as a Hayabusa or a ZX12-R and is not renowned for being as easily tuned. The sportier Fireblade is a different kind of bike - quicker than these around a racetrack, but not so potent at the top end. IMHO it would take an awful lot of work to get a Fireblade or a Blackbird above 200mph. Thenagain, the fact that the newspaper identified the bike as a Honda 1000 doesn't mean that it was actually a Honda 1000...

No, don't do it. Don't think of the top speed potential - think about all that glorious mid-range roll-on acceleration. That "ride all day, well within the design limits" sensation that only a big bike can give you. That blinding any-time, any-gear potential that is probably the greatest safety aid to two-wheeled travel. Pull yourself together man!

Its a bit of....saving money on insurance, tyres, chains, tax, servicing etc each year...
Worried about death and injury..(I attend many bike crashes at work and the memories stay with you)..
I'm also concerned about keeping my licence as a ban would mean end of Trafpol career. It's sooooo easy on the blackbird...Christ, the thing does over 70mph in 1st gear..

This is absolutely gospel.
My son and one of his mates went to Thailand for a couple of weeks and thought they'd hire bikes to get about on. They turned up at the hire shop expecting mopeds and this guy wheeled out two FIREBLADES! They were almost speechless.
But nothing compared to a couple of days later when they were attacked by an ELEPHANT just outside the town they were staying in. It rushed out from the bushes and tried to knock them off their bikes.
When they took the bikes back the guy said he forgot to tell them that elephants hate the sound of bikes!

I honestly believe you are safer on the Blackbird, with its huge reserves of power, superb chassis and brakes, than on a (comparatively) gutless traily with long travel suspension, semi-knobbly tyres and rubbish brakes.

Morning Street.
I know where you are coming from mate. On my '99 blade, I have to have a new rear tyre every year ( £120 for the tyre+fitting etc ) and a new front tyre and chain every 2 years. The servicing via shop is at least £200 and the Ins is £245 TPF+T.It is expensive and I have considered downsizing and getting out. Think I would miss it too much if I got out though, and a big power drop would be hard to accept. TBH I was told that tyres/chains/servicing is almost as much for a sport 600 so do your homework before you make a decision. I understand about the licence though. I'm not BiB but I have to travel 50 miles a day to work and loss of licence would be a major problem. Public transport is crap. I started with an ER5 which is cheap to run, and you only want to do 85 max (windblast) so licence ok (probably) but Gary it was soooooooooooooo boring I tradede up within 3 months. My advice is to cost up running a smaller bike and test ride a few. Then you will know if the money saved is worth it. You may find the power drop intolerable as has been said! I think Mon Ami Mate is right with the comments about trailies having knobbly tyres and no power etc..
I have enjoyed the ability to get out of anywhere with the blackbird...
En-route to the pub quiz last night, me and Mrs Street decided that the bike is going and i'm not getting another one. She's fine either way, I mean she travels pillion, but isn't bothered if we have one or not...
As for replacing it; perhaps not yet..I need an estate car for the two kids and the ex-police dog....so it's 1.9TDI heaven for the time being, I feel..
