Wipers on the other hand are pretty much essential the first time you get caught out in bad weather so why risk it?
This!

Why would you not want to be able to clear a bug, bird droppings or spray from the car in front when you're out n about?

I suppose you could always stop and clear it, but let's say the sun was low, car in front washes their windscreen and you get some greasy drops on yours - all of a sudden, zero visibilty... confused
Us bikers manage without wipers on our visors, it's much the same.

And laugh bugger that at speed or when you need to open the visor.

Even on a Caterham I can't reach the outside of the screen, particularly with the harness done up. I can wipe a visor or goggles with the back of my hand.

Kit car with a screen . . . puffs ! wink

Mine doesn't even have an aero screen, if you sit low enough and wear a helmet/goggles you're fine, in good weather at least.

Is it a requirement to have a windscreen at all?

Tried that, got caught in a shower - plus, the small screen I have got means up to around 100 leptons, I don't even need shades, the air flies over like I'm in an invisible bubble... driving

Here's mine:
