What are police communications like? I remember talking to a police inspector a number of years ago who was part of a team involved in implementing an encrypted radio system that worked via the mobile phone system (you could also use the system to make conventional calls). It seems that a reliable intergrated system of communication would be a lot better than a dodgy not-too-secure radio link and a nokia.......
Driving round manchester i've often seen police vans with the driver juggling a radio and mobile phone...

Its called TETRA (airwaves) run/operated by O2!

It was marketed as the best thing since sliced.....

IT isn't!

I will agree with that, it is a complete pile of ar5e. Not enough talkgoups, too many officers on one talk group for decent comms, callback feature (to alleviate air traffic) keeps dropping out, and even better, the emergency button (to prod when you are getting the sh1t kicked out of you) generally doesn't work.

Nice.

VHF had bad reception, but at least you could communicate.....

Smoke signals or police boxes and whistles are definately the way ahead, or as gone says, turn the sodding thing off and eat donuts all day.

You have to be able to test the quantum performance of any extra dimensional vehicle, to do so is perfectly safe and within police guidelines......

We have a tardis parked outside my tube station. I doubt it gets done for speeding - however - noone ever does on Earls Court Road!
