I was going from Geneva to Lausanne.
But what will basically happen ? I will receive a letter from them here in England ?
Geneva to Lausanne? The road along the lake with the grey forward facing speed cameras every few miles (well every 5 or so)... But what will basically happen ? I will receive a letter from them here in England ?
They take a very dim view of speeding; at the very least a fine, probably a summons to court (then fine or fine + prison/suspended prison). If you get the summons notice then get an English speaking lawyer in Geneva, fast to get a plea for a fine. Or ignore it all and don't plan to visit there for 5-7 years. Not sure how efficient they are at logging things, but police operate at a federal level (?); I know of locals and Brits who have paid heavily for speeding, sadly.
Switzerland, lovely country, great food, nice wine, nice people, but the only place I know where your neighbour would report you for doing 31mph in a 30 zone.
Switzerland. Heavily armed, neutral and impossible to invade...

I am surprised that the DVLA give out personal details to foreign countries, shame really!
Not when you consider the benefits of a reciprocal agreement, meaning UK authorities would be able to trace a foreigner committing traffic offences in the UK?If foreign drivers knew they couldn't be traced using details supplied by their home authority then they'd be free to speed, cross red-light cameras etc. with impunity. That would be more annoying for the majority of the UK population than the fear of the DVLA giving details over to foreign authorities about us.

You silly sod.The DVLA sell information to Tesco about who has parked in their car parks over 2 hours!!
At >80kmh over this is serious trouble for the OP if they pursue, as 60kmh over is a minimum of EUR 1000 fine and ten days in jail!!

A lot of worry about nothing.
The Swiss will do absolutely nothing.
You will not get a letter, a fine, a summons or hear from them at all.
This is from experience with my son who has an English registered car, registered at my address in England. He lives in France and works in Germany, travelling home through CH regularly. So far he's been 'flashed 6 time in CH over the past year and nothing, repeat nothing, has arrived here in respect of those 'flashes'.
Worry ye not!

Probably best to wait and see... but I know of both residents in Swiss marked cars and Brits in UK plated cars, where the swiss authorities have chased for the money.
I would suggest that for a minor flash (say 15km over) that they would bother pursuing non residents as the chasing costs would outweigh the fine, but for the larger fines it would be in their interest to pursue... just as we would want the BiB in the Uk to pursue a Swiss driver doing 125 on the M1...

Speaking from experience here as have been stopped in Switzerland for speeding.
We were reported by Swiss drivers on the motorway. (Swiss laws allow public to report speeders/bad driving...........Pol are obliged to investigate)
We weren't bombing it anywhere near the speed quoted by the OP. We were pulled by 4 Pol cars waiting for us on the exit to a tunnel. Got a severe talking to & although we hadn't pinged any cameras our DL details were all noted & taken down. We were warned that if we busted any radar traps or other RT laws for the rest of our time in CH we would then be immediately arrested when we next entered the country. In short don't feck about with the dibbles in CH.

Oh dear...probably the WORST country in Europe to do this! Best Advice....STAY AWAY FROM switzerland for a few years!
They send folk to prison for these sort of speeds!
But saying that, if its British registered..you should be okay...they can't be arsed to trace, and they are not members of the EU....
I was once told to get off a motorway because my UK car had the wrong lights on! (even though it was daytime)....I apologized in my best Scheiwz German and the guy let me go.....
