M25 No hard shoulder!

The gantry mounted speed cameras do not record drivers in lanes with a red X.
This is just the most ridiculous situation. How can a gantry with a camera be installed to catch people going above a limit on the sign when it can't be (or just isn't) setup to catch anyone in that lane when the X is shown?A much more dangerous issue and I doubt anyone would disagree with its implementation.

Legislation Just like that legislation that all those people who wanted to use it to get off speeding tickets due to a technicality? "font irregularities" (reminds me of all the chavvy number plate threads on here )
Sign error on M42 motorway may mean speeding let-off - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-21719322
ETA that reminded me, when people moan about unnecessary signs etc this was " the consultancy" that tries to get people off http://www.rmbconsulting.co.uk/HOME.html

I managed to have a blow out on pretty much the worst one of these - Aston Expressway. Not only is it "managed", but you're also 60 feet off the ground, so you literally have nowhere to go.
While there are undoubtedly people who deliberately drive in X'ed out lanes, I'm willing to bet that most of them are zonked out on autopilot while bimbling through the average speed zone. Cruise on, brain in neutral, not looking at anything other than vaguely at the car in front.
The AA man who dragged me off the road was scathing about the safety aspects - hated working on them, seen too many unpleasant outcomes.

And to add to the fun, the new bit of that motorway south of the Forth Bridge has a bus lane instead of a hard shoulder! I'm amazed that there hasn't been an incident with a bus rear-ending a breakdown thus far, though it does appear to have decent CCTV coverage & I've seen the bus lane closed via the overhead gantries because a breakdown was parked on it in the past. The bus lane also appears to have a 40mph speed limit, so presumably the buses use the normal running lanes when traffic is moving freely.speedyguy said:

What you don't mention is that he used to be a police officer. Which might suggest that he has some respect for the law.Maybe he feels that the state should play by the rules as set out and that convicting people when it doesn't is wrong.
