So in your view, the distinction with any fault occurring within three months or six months doesn’t matter then?
I didn't write the CRA.

You can have an existing fault that doesn't cause a failure immediately.
You must agree that on the flip side, you can have an immediate failure that wasn’t caused due to a defect that was present at the time of sale of a vehicle?

This! It’s a very well known fault and whilst they do tend to fray before snapping there’s no way to prove it did at POS

Of course you can, but that's not for me to substantiate.

Pleased to hear that the OP's relative got a good result from Ford.

Is there any diesel engine made since 2010 that doesn't spontaneously implode? I am beginning to wonder.

I am planning on updating my 18 year old tow car (Nissan X Trail) in the near future, and seem to read nothing but horror stories about badly engineered engines from more than one manufacturer, especially made since the date when all manufacturers started claiming an extra 10 mpg from their products.

For example, the JLR Ingeniun engines (F Pace, Discovery Sport etc) starred on a recent thread, https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... which makes a good read as well as being a horror story regarding all JLR products using the engine, as well as JLR customer disservice.

I would be seriously interested to be guided to a mid-sized diesel tow vehicle up to 12 years old and costing no more than £12k that won't implode as soon as I am in the back of beyond in the foreign.

I.
We do ok on most pre-Euro 6 but after that I couldn't name a manufacturer that doesn't give us grief.
