I lover all this internet hard man nonsense, no-one knows what the highway code says about anything, its a book that no-one has ever read since they passes their test. The last time I read it was in 1988, I wouldn't have a scooby doo what it says on page one hundred and whatever about some signage or other.
Unfortunately this is very true, as you have graphically proved by your complete lack of understanding something as simple as traffic lights.
This is why there should be further training and an assessment of peoples driving standards every 5 years, or so.

All anyone ever does is try to drive without crashing or getting caught speeding or parking, no-one has ever been interested in the slightest in a book of words no matter what it is.
People who come on here must have some interest in driving. The Highway Code, Traffic lights, and Traffic Signs, are all downloadable.

Loads of interest in Driving, none about driving laws though. We have been lent a brand new Transit Custom for our latest job in Scotland and driving it is great with all the gadgets and stuff, I have learnt how to connect my phone to the media player in it and had a play with the heated seats and stuff but I don't have the slightest interest in what the kerb weight is or how many miles to the gallon it might do though.

As daft as it seems though and I don't have any interest in swotting up on the myriad of ever changing pedantic law, I'm still the only one out of all of the people I talk to that seems to know you can only do 60 on a dual carriageway in a van.

Ah yes, traffic lights. The bastion of ever changing and pedantic road traffic law. How can we ever be expected to keep up with the latest infernal developments in the swift changing and frantic arena of traffic light signals. I myself have already forgotten what a filter light looks like. Twice. Since breakfast.

You're flummoxed? It doesn't take a genius to deduce that's likely down to the fact that many people driving on our roads don't pay enough attention. If you haven't noticed that maybe you're one of them?
Just at this set though? I can be behind someone for a few miles and they always manage to get through sets of lights both previous to this set and after without any dramas, maybe there is something in the air at this particular set that makes their mind wander, there is a sewage works down the road, maybe its that.
People innit? I could give you a number of other examples - one I regularly used to experience on my commute was 2 ahead lanes at lights with a merge beyond to one lane about 200m beyond the lights. Two different locations, but both within a mile of eachother. At one, everybody was incredibly civil and merged in turn, even in congested conditions. At the other it was like a battle to the death every time. Weird.

After driving in London with my lorry I have noticed people just dont pay any attention to anything, whenever that's traffic lights, cyclist, buses or lorries it's like they simply dont care, I have noticed that people mostly do these silly things whenever there is a red light camera present, then everyone behaves like an angel infront of the lights, however if one is not present at a junction, the light might aswell stay red and it wouldn't bother them one bit.

Also indicating in London seems like a sign of weakness on the road lol.

A few people have said this so I'll change tact slightly. There is a set of traffic lights not too far from me that I go through probably a couple of times a week. I can't always see the green filter arrow if I'm at the font of the queue unless I move my head slightly to one side as either the sun visor or rear view mirror can be in the line of site.

In a totally unrelated point about 50% of the time that I'm slightly further back in the queue when I see the green filter arrow come on the car in front doesn't move and only goes when either myself or someone else gives them a friendly beep. Can any of the motoring geniuses in the forum give me any ideas why the front car doesn't move off so often as it doesn't seem to happen at any other set of lights I'm at. I'm absolutely flummoxed.

I dont really want to make another topic, can someone assist me on this one;

I was driving on finchley road in London, coming up to a junction where I was gonna make a right hand turn, now the lights just turned green so i started proceeding through.

When I was around halfway through (halfway through the white solid line, a car on my left in a straight only lane was getting so close to me that he would either clip the side of my lorry or cause a bigger accident, my only option was to slam my breaks and beep to warn of my presence (silly I know how can you not see a 32T tipper) so that there was no accident.

Now here comes the issue, I was at a point where I could not see the lights anymore (there isn't any repeated lights at the end of the junction which I just find strange) so I'm unsure whenever the lights have turned red in the time I have stopped and got going again, as far as I'm concerned the cars that were behind me stayed behind the line while I have safely proceeded through the junction and made a right hand turn with caution (traffic from any direction did not yet move at that point)

There is a red light camera on that junction so I'm uncertain on how will they look at that and what defense would I have if I did get a NIP through the door?

Here is a picture of the junction -

I was either a bit past the second pole with the lights or I was so close to it that I didnt see them anymore from my cab, as you can see at the end of the junction there isn't any repeated lights like on most junctions.

Simple solution. Move your head so you can see.

Hmmm......This part contradicts itself:

It states that people mostly do silly things in front of red light cameras, but then states that they behave like an angel in front of the (camera) lights.

I suspect you meant: .....I have noticed that people don't do these silly things whenever there is a red light camera present, then everyone behaves like an angel in front of the lights

As for the rest of the criticism about how people drive around London:

Nothing new there - It's been like that for the last 40 years +!

People are advised to drive defensively - Drive like that in London and you'll be a lamb to the slaughter!

Driving in London (Central London especially), is extremely aggressive, with drivers ignoring red lights, ignoring give way signs and road markings, ignoring pedestrian crossings, driving at other vehicles to intimidate them out of the way, changing lane without indicating, forcing their way into traffic when pulling out of junctions, pulling out half way across the road, blocking a lane when turning right out of a junction, blocking junctions in heavy traffic, failing to indicate anywhere, refusing to allow oncoming vehicles to turn right in front of them, even though it would cause them no delay whatsoever to do so, parking on junctions, etc., etc., etc.

When it comes to driving in London: it's a dog eat dog s***hole!

Well thats what I do funnily enough but if you don't know the junction then you won't know that there is a filter arrow to move your head for so you just see a red light expecting the amber to light up when its time to go
