Limehouse Link Cameras
Discussion
These are the small purple cameras high up towards the tunnel ceiling, right? I haven't been over that way in years, but I used to drive that way a bit before the tunnel was built, when it was built and then once the cameras went in.
I am *sure* that when they went in they were average speed cams, because I remember having to switch from driving "normally" to having to crawl through the entire length of the tunnel at 29.8 mph along with everyone else. I also see to remember that they were some of the very first digital cams - no film to run out - linked straight to ticket printing HQ via a fibre optic link.
Maybe the average speed capability is still there and can be switched on and off.

According to my Road Angel they are average speed!!!
Yes - my Talex says the same thing. However, I think it's because it can't give you the exact location of the camera as there's no GPS signal so it says average speed to be on the safe side.I'm local and have crept over the limit between the cameras on many occasions without any issues...

Mine gives about 500 yards warning of SPECS and goes off WELL before you enter the tunnel.
If they are SPECS average speed then I should have been done a hundred times already!
I take great pleasure in attaining silly speeds as a sprint race between the fixed camera locations (3 each way). I do this as I return to London on a Sunday evening and traffic is very light/non-existant.
I've also set off the London Bridge bound entry camera at an indicated 40mph before and not recieved notification.
They are live, but they are not average speed, unlike the rest of the A13.

The Limehouse Link tunnel has RedSpeed digital scameras, not ToD scameras.
Three photographs are taken, on the first flash a wide-angle and zoom are taken within 100ms, after a vehicle speed determined delay a third photograph is taken (second flash).
It should be said that in the three years to 31/12/2002 there were 18 KSIs in the tunnel, which dropped to zero after scamera installation. Prior to the scameras, surveys showed half of the vehicles using the tunnel were exceeding 30mph, with 6% travelling at over 60mph.
Streaky
PS - if it flashes, it's not an average speed / Time over Distance / SPECS scamera - S

Thank you - this matches my understanding.Three photographs are taken, on the first flash a wide-angle and zoom are taken within 100ms, after a vehicle speed determined delay a third photograph is taken (second flash).
