Just watched the National Geographic channel documetary about the German Autobahn.
It makes you believe in God, because the only way we could have beat these people in the War was with divine intervention.
Utterly fanbloodytastic engineering standards, and organisation that has to be the best in the world.
After we tame the speed cameras we should go after the roads department and send them all to Germany to see how it should be done.

Sorry, I'm a bit slow tonight, you must be referring to the new AUDI A8 ad. Very clever, my son sells these and they are utterly awesome.
Didn't realise you were a Bentley Turbo man.
I rebuilt one of these for a guy last year; new steering rack, pressure spheres, brakes, rear spring pans all jigged and seam welded,(what a bloody job that was!), set up the boost, etc. Loadsa money for bits.
He was so delighted at how well the car was going he went out and wrote it off!!
There's just no pleasing some people.

You get a lot of standing water on some of the roads when it has been raining, but they have lower speed limits when wet, so no excuse for not driving appropriately for conditions.

But when it is dry....

I've been up and down through Deutchsland a few times in my rice rocket; I can't tell you how much of a relief it is to drive at a decent speed while not having to worry about cameras, police, numpites, lane hoggers.......

You don't know what standing water means until you've live in Skye. It stands to attention up there!!

Numpties, lane hoggers etc are fairly normal in Germany now, ever since the greens and their useless wasters like Fischer have become "acceptable".
The usual "game" by these scum is wait until a car is approaching fast (250k+) then pull out (forcing emergency braking) without signalling with their greenslime shitmobile (usually a 30 year old rusty diseasel with greenslime stickers) or bratcarrier to overtake the truck at 100.000001kph and then take 10kms to pull back in...... that's the trouble with 2 lane motorways and huge amounts of trucks.....
not to mention dizzy young bints driving motorised rollerskates and telephoning or doing their daily warpaint........

Really? did these happen to you while you were blatting on the Autobahns? Only once did a truck try to overtake while I was approaching at speed, he suddently developed some observational skills and pulled straight back in. Other than that, perfection!

Agreed this does also happen usually if you've a "known" motor Porsche/Jag/sportscar as these seem to open the door, however if you drive a fast Audi they think it's an "ordinary" Audi A4 and think they can outrun you......even if you've over 400hp and 600Nm and over 320kph capability....... tossers

but sadly nowadays it seems that the Mumpty, Dozybint and other provocative greenslime are more than prevalent!!! and me with only 2.5 million kms in Germany in the last 30 years....

Hi All! Have to agree Iolaire on MOST things about German Autobahns BUT! try towing a tailer there! Oh! mein Got!

Been driving there for many years now and it has now got steadily worse. They REALLY do need 3 lanes now everwhere like us. Drivers of faster (or reasonbly fast cars) have become crazy. Two lanes is NOT enough for a span of 50 - 200 mph!!!! FULL BLOODY STOP!! the faster cars can ONLY do it with the aquiesence of and danger to others. Put a trailer on and try it if you're brave enough! The German Autobahns in general do NOT in my view reach our road standards although I DO admire their train of thought. It's not a critisism of you Isolaire but PLEASE, next time you're there, just take 30 minutes to imagine you are towing at 60- 70 mph max!(otherwise the Policei will get you) After that ! See what you think. try it please. 8pack

I did for two years, but it will always be a very special place to me, despite the rain and the sheep and the awful fuel and food prices!!

I know exactly what you mean, I have a class 1 HGV licence, and pulling out into the outside lane with forty five tons is a hairy business sometimes.
I wasn't just talking about the speed of driving though, it was also the road management system and the beautiful efficiency of it.
I am doing some research at the moment into the cause and effect of road management in this country; it now has to be the worst in europe. There is serious evidence of accidents, even fatalities, caused by mismanagement at local and national level.
It's things like local authorities who consider it acceptable and normal practice to cone off a known, desperately congested dual carriageway in the middle of a working day and cause a massive tail back that inconviences literally thousands of people; to CUT THE GRASS!! Utterly unbelievable! Happening every day all over the country; consider the increase in pollutants alone.

My mum lives there and the drive up is excellent, although the sheep do get in the way once you're on the single tracks!

And they're removing the very grass which could help get rid of some of the pollution... Roadside vegetation should only be cut back around junctions and on the inside of bends. If it's not obstructing visibility there's no reason to cut it.
