Per "Mail" (as reported Thurs, 14/10/04 by Stephen Wright and Paul Harris)

The policeman once accused of being Britain's most politically correct cop looks set to take over from Sir John Stevens to become headt of the Met...as he has made it past the initial interviews and now through to the interview with ....Blunderkit

Oxford Educated Sir Ian Blair (NO relation to Bliar ... ) is said to be "head and shoulders above the competition)

(English Lit At least he knows his Dickens, Strassen Liebchen - but photo of him ....not exactly my idea of a fit bloke - 51 and looks older and a bit of farty to me )

Sir Ian stirred it a bit in 1999 when he called on police to ditch its "canteen culture of prejudice"

He said policing in Britain would be changed beyond recognition following the death of Stephen Lawrence, and that policing would become more "gentle and caring and very considerate towards ethnic cultures and gays"

( Note the gentle bit - 350 Liebchen! But note - middle class balding "boy racers" and other more normal creatures in cars are not included in his "be nice to people" spiel

He was interviewed by Head of British Transport Police and the Sussex Chief Constable and sources say "promotion is formality"

Only a speeding ticket can nobble him now

Blunderkit regards him as "thinking man's copper"

already suspicious

The guy has been planning budgets and making force less "racist" behind the scenes.....according to tabloid article.

Sir Ian joined as beat bobby with Met in 1974, and rose up throught the ranks, investigating corruption before joining TVP as assistant CC. In 1998 - he became Surrey's CC and his two years there earned him reputation as "reformer with close links to Noo Labia"

He became Deputy Commissioner of Scotland Yard, and in 2002, shaved off his beard as Home Office said "bloke with beards as Commissioner "

Pity that does not apply to Prats

In the same year - he alleged two thirds of all muggings are carried out by Afro-Carribeans, and he attacks the criminal justice system. ( Not all bad then and last year attacked the "political target culture which was holding back the fight against yobs and vandals!"

Earlier this year he warned about the fractured society whereby people like me live in nice areas well away from rest of society....

Well - always lived here from marriage and could not contemplate moving - even if nearest hospital is miles away

Controversially - he says it is "pointless" for Strassen to arrest people for possessing small amount of cannabis" even though they are going "Far out man" to him whilst he is lecturing them about non wearing of seatbelt and making them crawl about floor to retrieve dog end of their joint!

On plus side - he has banned children under 16 from entering West End with a "9pm anti-social curfew"

=====================================
What do people think?

Noo Labia muppet/puppet/pawn?

Or

OK bloke?

Wildcat.
I personally think that he appears to be a mixture of virtues. As you say, some of his ideas are ok and some seem daft. Will have to wait and see what HE ACTUALLY DOES. I,m a great believer in "actions speak louder than words". This is especially applicable to politicians and Policemen in positions of power.
P.S. Bit surprised you call New LABOUR by a term for part of your anatomy ( you know...being a woman and all. Seems like you like a laff.(good))P.S. Hows the preggy going. Must be due very soon by my calculations.
Have a good weekend Liebchen.

Otherwise - we seem to be OK - kitten is a restless little muppet though.... sign of things to come?

But like you say - guy seems to be mix - shall have to wait and see.

Posted the blurb on this to see concensus of opinions...

So long as he does not advocate more blasted cams .....

No room at all for daft ideas. Bad move.

Wildcat, you need to be more educated

The idea of being "head and shoulders above" is not from Dickens but the Bible. I Samuel 9v3: "And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people". Though it also comes in English lit as well.

I thought the Viking was aiming for this job all along; hence his predilection for keeping his name in the Press.

Can I hear the howls of anguish on the west wind from Abergele, wherein the beast dwelleth?

As a good Catholic lass - she should have know this - she is now rifling the Dickens bookshelf to see where she read it .....

Keeps her out of other mischief anyway Though knowing my wife ....

Wildcat? Can't you arrange a visit to: "Ings" for him? After all, these people are known not to "hang about" when travelling.

P.S. Don't tell Steve that he's coming.
