New speeding penalties coming April 2017
Discussion
Got sent this as a link through works email - apologies if it's been discussed here before, but sobering stuff!

Speed awareness course guidelines are not changing.
Fixed penalty guidelines are not changing.
Maximum fines are unchanged.
If court proceedings are instituted then the highest of three sentencing guideline brackets changes in April 2017.
Not particularly "sobering" and discussed here:

Thanks for the clarification and link, as far as not sobering, well it certainly grabbed my attention. I would not want a 150% of my weekly income as a speeding fine.
Even for the band B fines it's a hell of a jump from what would have been £100 to 100% of weekly income. I was pulled over on 1st April for a speed that would cop me a band B fine under the new rules. Seen as these rules come into effect on 24th April, they can't apply the new fines, can they?
The FPN is likely to arrive after 24th April, seen as I got pulled over and the 14 day rule doesn't apply.
Band A, B or C fines can only be imposed by a court.
It's only Band C fines that are increasing under the new guidelines.
If you were offered a FPN (still 3 points & £100, both before and after 24 April 2017), this would mean you'd have the option to dispose of the matter without a visit to court.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh. Makes more sense now. It's only Band C fines that are increasing under the new guidelines.

So because I was below the threshold for a summons, in theory I don't need to worry.
Cheers.

Not quite. Bands are unchanged, but the highest of three sentencing categories (for court awarded fines) is presently a guideline Band B fine. Soon it will be Band C. It's only Band C fines that are increasing under the new guidelines.
