Just had a bit of a brainwave (or not) regarding legal usage of these.
If theyre converted by the manufacturer to read DISTANCE, ie a rangefinder function is incorporated, to give an indication of a safe distance to the vehicle in front/behind you, and it just so happens to perform as a door opener as well, then the cops cant stop it from being used as you have a GENUINE safety usage for it!

Am i right or am i mad? :D

Reasonable idea but a whole new jammer will need to be invented since the current decent ones use extremely high powered led's that can only run for upto 5 seconds at a time otherwise they'll burn out!

SLD can run continuously.

I like your thinking Deltaf, a true safety device. Surely nobody could argue against how useful that would be?

Distance to where? A real range finder has a very narrow angle of operation (just like a speed laser gun); a jammer must have a wide angle of operation as you won’t know in advance exactly where the scammer will be hiding. So I reckon intent to obstruct can be proven.

Also, would you also need such a ‘range finder’ to operate from the rear of your car?

Why not? You would know when to slow down if soomeone is tailgating you.

True. Maybe you could even use it as a parking distance sensor but in both cases, the required range would be minimal, hence it would need very little power output - unlike a jammer.
