Nothing to do with real criminals (ok well it is speeding related) but....

I have just passed my bike test by DAS and as I already hold a car licence was wondering if I was now back down to a meagre 6 point allowance (I currently have none). If I was to get 6 points by car or bike would that be a ban??

Thanks

I believe that it only applies to that category.

I couldn't find a definitive answer after I sat my HGV2. However, I had been driving for 3 years before I sat it, so putting me back into probation for my Cat B seems a bit extreme.

I would like a proper answer though as well, I am doing my HGV1 later this year and hopefully my DAS next year which would mean another 3 years of Probation!!

AFAIK, it's only your first full licence that includes a probationary period, but the DVLA website isn't too clear.

Edited to add found this on the DVLA website

The Road Traffic ( New Drivers) Act 1995

This Act will affect you if you passed your first GB driving test after 1 June 1997 when it came into force. If the number of valid penalty points shown on your driving licence total 6 or more during the two year probationary period immediately following your first driving test, your full driving licence will be revoked by DVLA until such time as you pass a further driving test.

The section says "first driving test". Your DAS is clearly not your first test, so you're in the clear.

Why, are you planning on a reckless speeding spree now you've passed your DAS?!?

Aha thanks for sorting that out. Not planning a speeding spree just yet (more an accelerationfest) but it's a bit easy to get carried away on anything bigger than my little CG125

Interestingly 'someone I know' passed their test in December 1997 and got 6 points for one speeding offense (93mph on motorway) in August 1998. It appeared that the magistrate court never informed the DVLA - just kept the license and gave it back after a 14 day ban. No retest etc.

The following year a change of address resulted in a new, clean license from the DVLA.

Do the magistrates have any discresion with this, or was this some strange clerical error?
