Got double-flashed by a Gatso tonight on a deserted and unpopulated 30mph SC at about 5-7mph over the limit. Scamera lines on both side of the road, Gatso situated on the other side of oncoming lane as I drove towards it.

Two flashes straight in my eyeballs later confidence escapes me and paranoia seeps in.

Am I safe?

Believe so - happended to me on an NSL a couple of times - never heard anything.

Not the safest of things to happen - they are flippin bright flashes!

Been discussed on here before as well I think.

I do it deliberately all the time. I reckon if I can get the film to run out that bit quicker it might save some poor buggers license.

Gatso's only nick you going away. Those flashes are bright though, I wonder how many accidents they have caused. Safety my arse, any other equipment that dazzled drivers would be banned instantly.

Won't somebody think of the revenue.

To stand a chance of not being nicked it's important to understand the various types of camera and how they are deployed.
For example, you must know the difference between a Gatso and a Truvelo. The Gatso can only get you after you've passed it and it photographs the rear of the vehicle, etc, etc.
There are web sites which tell you all you need to know. The 'Speed camera bible does so at www.speed-trap.co.uk/Home/Menu1.htm
When you know what they do and how they work you can drive accordingly.
Of course, a laser-jammer helps as well!

Very public-spirited of you, but aren't you a bit worried about the large stack of photos of your front number plate at SCP headquarters?

No, the w*nkers will just lose them or end up sending them to me. I am getting ever closer to my goal of leaving this silly little island and pissing off somewhere else. In another 30 years I will probably be dead and I fully intend to grow old disgracefully. I regard the laws on speed and the paraphanalia of enforcement such as cameras as less important than the stools produced by next doors dog.

My understanding of the Gatso system (which is admittedly 10 years out of date now) is that they take two photographs of a receding vehicle and one photograph of an approaching vehicle.

I can't understand why the camera would have flashed twice if you were driving towards it.

I know of bikers who always ride towards the front face of Gatso's to set them off, they also get flashed at twice. I guess this is old technology now & a fault of the system. Did hear of a newer model(Gatso 2?) that could get you either way. As I only heard about it the once, I suspect it might have been bull.
