Not sure I've posted on this particular forum before, so hello everyone.

Got in to work this morning to find that some travellers have set up home outside our offices. They're making quite a mess and they've only been there since the weekend. Human "waste" is around the back near our goods in door and the kids insist on playing in the goods road around the back. We have offices in the front and luckily only the kids have been round the front so far, and only once, but it is sooo fustrating not being able to do anything about it.

Being curious we drove around the back on the way out (we parked at the front in the morning) and the kids didn't get out of the way, totally ignoring the fact that a car was driving down the road, and one of the parents (I assume) just walked straight out in front of our car. We didn't hit him but had we not swerved we would have done.

They're also stealing electricity from an empty unit and have broken into and trashed another. Frankly, I'm extremely concerned that our offices are going to get broken into tonight, or at least vandalised.

My question (to which I think I already know the answer) is can we do anything about it? The Police have already been out and done what they can (which doesn't seem to be a lot, not their fault I know) and from what I understand we have about 2 weeks of fun to look forward to before we can expect to see the back of them.

Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

An acquaintance had a similar problem. He solved it with a bale soaked in 20 litres of petrol shoved under the caravan. A knock on the door with cigraett lighter in hand soon had the gathering things up and moving it quickly. Cost him > 2K to clean the mess up.

Moving to Reading might seem that you're moving to some parts of the Empire, but I can assure you, gh0st, that we are still in Blighty

I'd have lit the bale.
Thieving gypsy b@stards.
I would definately recommend paying a security guard to sit in your premises. They will steal anything.

Hey its the start of a slow series of events that will eventually move me to another country - besides Devon feels like another part of the world so it will be like moving country

Unfortunately it's in Reading that I work. And we have "security" already, although it's fair to say that they're pretty poor.

Interesting idea with the hay bale...

Seriously though, what makes them think that their behaviour is acceptable? I agree that stuff like this makes me more and more embarrassed to be English. A country with such a fine history being ruined by people like this, and the people who protect them with overly soft laws. I think if I'm still in this country in 10 years time I will be suprised.

Thanks for the answers so far.

A relative bargain, sadly. A mate of mine works for a company that builds out-of-town shopping centres, and they reckon each infestation of pikeys costs them tens of thousands in lost production time, legal fees and clean-up costs.

Offence = Abstracting electricity (not to mention burglary). Did you tell the police about this? Might be worth mentioning.

Also - the land they are on - Is it privately owned? If so and the owner of the land has taken reasonable steps to ask them to leave and they have not, the police have a power to require them to leave as soon as is reasonably practicable.

I'm afraid I didn't talk to the Police but I assume it was mentioned. There was a thick, bright orange cable going from the unit to the caravan so they wouldn't have missed it had it not been mentioned.

I didn't mention that one of their "dags" bit two different people from our offices. This is what triggered the call to the Police.

Suttons Business Park at the end of the A329. Handly location but there are a few empty units there and they came in at the weekend. We suffer from it roughly once a year but it's the first time I've been around when they are (I'm a university student).

They don't pay tax hence they're rich, get free land and take what they can without any real chance of getting punished. Sounds like a good idea to me altho I reckon going on the rock-n-roll is more comfortable option.

Yeah I know it well - my parents live in Sonning eye and my mums husband works down at Suttons

Hopefully the pressure of the other businesses and the landower should kick them off a bit.

Thing is, wherever they are moved to they are just going to do the same thing. Cant we just give them an island to themselves so they can pike and scrouge off each other

Last time they were there it took 2 weeks. That seems to be about the fastest they can be shifted because of the way the law works. Oh boy, am I looking forward to cleaning all their mess up when they've gone...

They tend to move on of their own accord long before the legal process takes hold, about a week or two. Keep a watchfull eye, maybe employ 24 hour security, and call the council as soon as they have gone, to clean up the mess they always leave behind.

Take a 'walking stick' to work and use it to 'defend' yourself against those 'dags'. Well, beat them to death actually and then leave the carcass in front of the caravans. Either that or leave some meat out for them. You know, the stuff that has been spiced up with a little rat poison.
Makes them feel welcome in a Fred West kind of way...

I see my local beach has its annual travellers holiday outing on the green, behind the sailing club this year :fume:. Wouldn't mind so much if they approached the council and payed for the stay, as do some caravan clubs and cleaned up after themselves.
Its just the level of shite, unruley kids and dogs and the fact that they decided last time to kill and eat the last remaining wild deer in the area that pisses me off.
As its your brothers patch, not sure where you're operating out of at present. When are they being moved on . Out of interest has the local crime rate/fly tipping gone up to reflect their influx .
