Scameras save lives ...... or not.
Discussion
A young couple died after their car swerved into the path of an on-coming ambulance, when the car in front of them braked to avoid a speed camera, an inquest heard.
Carly Gosnell, 22, and her 23-year-old boyfriend Martin Haywood, both from Dersingham, were travelling along the A149 in Heacham, on the night of July 26.
The inquest, at King's Lynn, heard the driver of an Alpha Romeo, which was travelling ahead of the couple, had slowed near the speed camera at the junction with Ringstead Road.
Matthew McGinn, 24, from Heacham, said he had slowed down and had then felt a bump from behind, which was Miss Gosnell's car. After clipping Mr McGinn's car, it is believed the Clio swerved into the path of an on-coming ambulance, which was travelling towards Hunstanton, the inquest was told.

Yes, but what if there had been no traffic coming the other way?
As everyone knows, im NOT a fan of Scameras but i really do find it hard to blame them for another drivers inadequacies.
(Not saying that it applied in this case though)
There was a point made on another thread that a driver paying proper attention to traffic (ambulance?) would not be so aware of something that wasn't about to cause him harm. Ergo a possible reason for the late braking. Tentative granted but there's no denying that a camera is a pretty pointless distraction.
Happy Snapper was nearly involved in a motorway pile up on Sunday when all the traffic locked up and started swerving all over the road because there was a Talivan on a motorway bridge. He was far enough back that he had space to react but the over reaction from the cars ahead sounded incredibly dangerous. I think it's back to what we've said before - bad driving kills and that manifests itself in many different was.

I had a similar thing happen on the M4 last Sunday was driving my mother to Bristol when suddenly going round a long left bend, all the tts in the right lane brake and swerve left taking every gap there is. I looked up the road there’s a mobile camera van on a bridge… IF that improves safety please lets have unlimited speed limits on motorways….
