Not exactly peak time for getting a big response on this, but anyway…

The whole camera revenue business is looking even more crooked: on top of the problem of inaccurate laser dodgyscopes, which the Home Office appear to hope is going to go away by just ignoring it, last Wednesday’s Motorcycle News and last Saturday’s Daily Mail highlighted another gatso problem (in addition to road vibration causing unexpected activation), whereby a motorcyclist was sent a speeding fine when actually well under the limit.

The motorcyclist can be calculated (from the gatso photos) to be travelling at 23mph (the limit is 30), but it can be seen (from the Gatso pictures) that he was recorded at 46mph!

He was sent an NIP.

The scamera system depends on camera partnership staff checking the
photos against the radar reading before they issue a ticket, but it looks as if, in their keenness to maximise revenue, they don’t.

This case is just one more where the operators failed in their duty to check the photos properly before issuing a ticket.

The vast majority of people who receive a ticket pay it because they have reasonable confidence(?) in the equipment and procedures (or they’re frightened to challenge it). This case proves that their "confidence" is misplaced. A large but unknown number of motorists and motorcyclists will have been duped into paying a fine that they didn't deserve. It could easily be tens of thousands.

The situation is made much worse because camera partnerships are often extremely reluctant to supply photographs - sometimes refusing to co-operate right up to the point of a court appearance. More intimidation.

Who can possibly have any confidence whatsoever in the camera businesses?

Not only do they contribute nothing to safe travel (the whole policy probably makes it worse), but they seek to extract money by using unreliable technology.

I heard a quote ages ago which seems to apply very well, cant remember where it came from but it was

"The person is clever, the people are stupid"

People like you and I see the issues involved and the lying c**ts doing everything they can to get money, but the general populous believe that their government is right due to a perverse form of peer pressure hence we are always going to be stuck with the c**ting things.

For those who have seen the published photographs, check how short a distance the coach (alleged to have caused the error) has travelled between the two. Of course, the traffic might have been slow-moving on that side of the road, but what's the betting the scamera was set with too short a time between flashes (seem to recall some previous mention of this on SP&L). IIRC there was little traffic ahead of the motorcycle to suggest an enforced speed of 18mph on his side - Streaky
