As I drove to Gloucester on Sunday, there was a Highways Agency Toyota Landcruiser parked up one of these perches, causing all the traffic to panic brake. But these ramps are marked Police Vehicles Only, I wonder does that mean if you had a (bloody minded) police officer that he could nick them?

Tony

PS I cant amend the title sorry, hindsight says i shouldnt have said that!

I asked this some months back. I was assured by one of our kindly resident BiBs that they are allowed to use the ramps.

I agree with you Peter.

Motorway Traffic (England and Wales) Regs 1982, Reg 16 covers a number of exceptions and relaxations, a couple of which would cover such conduct.

Dont know about swapping a gasket (As I wouldn't have a clue), but if I broke down on the moterway, and was within distance to get on one of these ramps, I would not hesitate to get me and the car to a safer position. Would I be subsequently be prosecuted for getting further off the hard shoulder into the plce bay? Who knows.

Yes, they are allowed, but have no powers to stop you.

No, common sense would prevail I would hope.
