I seem to recall people mentioning Cumbria when referring to particularly rigid enforcement.

Can anyone give me an idea of any particular things I should know about?

TIA,

Tony

Lots of Talivans on bridges over the M6 - lots of Talivans in general - particularly on the empty and fast A6 .

This is more WildCat's area of expertise though...

Cumbria's prat site gives location of the fixed scams und "timetable of talivan"

A66 ist a fave (Keswick und also just beyond Penrith towards Eden Valley (which ist a really great area for walks und bike rides) as ist the bridge over the M6 at Shap und there are sites on A65 over at Kirby Lonsdale in addition to along A591.

Interestingly, we have sign at A591 Keswick und A591 as you enter the National Park from Kendal end that almost 600 die on this road over last 5 years. We live here und read our local press und find we read of more incidents since the cams started In fact, one would expect a reduction not an increase ... given the cam vans und the fixed one at Ings. (See Ern's posts on Paulie's site plus photos of the area in question as well)

Hot spot on A591 ist Ings village. Be very careful here. These are speedcurb Montitron/redspeed type digital doo-dahs. 40 mph stretch - but they were testing its flash and it flashed at 30 mph! Lot of worried drivers ready to challenge as they were above 30 mph but below 40 mph - per the garage shop assistant - cam ist located there - in the central reserve.

But being a Montitron type.. sensors under road surface. They start at the 40 mph paint und lolly. Look closely at that road surface - ist a tell tale sign to sharp ("feline" eyes

Others - mostly vans - there are three.

- Has special lay-by in Grange-over-Sands for his van. Other targets include A590/592/595. But check out his timetable on-line und on BBC Radio Cumbria who tell you "to watch that speed on the A whatever"

There are a lot of nice hotels und some of the finest walks in country here.

Some superb watering holes too.

Und the open top bus service can be very pleasant in nice weather too. Und you can tour WIndermere area via the steamboats too - und even take the steam train as well to explore a bit further.

Ist case of doing homework as to what to do und look at timetables

Sadly its a work jobbie, leaving Blackpool on Monday morning following a weekend away. I've got to visit Kendal, Workington, Whitehaven, Barrow (staying overnight in Ye Olde Travelodge) Morecambe and Lancaster before heading back home.

I did have a look at the Cumbria cam site.

Did you know...
Almost all accidents occur while vehicles were travelling straight ahead although turning right and overtaking also featured in the causation records

Cumbria Scam said:
Did you know...
In all areas, the majority of fatal and serious injury accidents occurred while vehicles were driving straight ahead or going into left or right hand bends

So that covers just about all accidents then.................

Thank you very much Wildcat, keep a look out for a silver smart forfour driving very slowly (must remember to update my speed camera POIs before I go)

If you're travelling between Workington and Whitehaven you'll likely be using the A595 - fixed speed cameras (new digital ones, about 2/3rds the size of a GATSO) at the Howgate Pub (Brewsters thing, easy to spot). Locals tend to do the irritating slow to 30 in a 40 FFS then boot it back up to 45-50 afterwards (why not just travel at 40 all the way?). Cameras are apparently live, but the Northbound one (ie, travelling from Whitehaven to Workington) is currently burnt out following an arson attack.

As Wildcat says, check web for mobile stuff, and try to come back for pleasure rather than business, it's a lovely area, and we do even see the sun occasionally!

With regards to the 'timetable' for the camera vans- they do have a disclaimer that says these are the intended locations at those times, but in reality they're free to operate wherever they see fit in their network at any time.

The best advice when travelling the busy 'A' roads in Cumbria is to drive within the conditions and the posted speed limits. There have been a high number of fatalities in Cumbria this year and as such the Police are using the full arsenal available to Police the roads.

What happened about that Wildy. In my experience Monitron make a habit of this, that is testing equipment on public highway and flashing totally innocent people. I know of rear end collisions at one set of TL where they tested a RTLC/speed camera with hair trigger and reduced amber times.

Do they not understand the laws of unintended consequences and the distress and worry caused?

In this increasingly litigious society it's about time someone sued them and reamed a new rear orifice in the Company directors.

Oh, sorry about that Tony. Maybe have a nice skive another time then.

With a bit of care you ought to be able to stay ticket-free 'cos the scamera twits will all be out looking for WildCat.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Scumbria will chase for a conviction no matter what
They went after me big time on s172 and speeding
I prepared an excellent defense and engaged the duty solicitor to check my chances of success
Got a lot of help and usefull advice and was advised that the defense had a reasonable chance of success(mohindra)but if we won they would immediately appeal it and keep chasing it through the courts

So I copped a plea and took the speeding FPN which we resurrected just to avoid the hassle

they are Rabid....

I'll be nice and slowly, just enjoying the scenery. Cheers for all your comments, I owe you all a
I have read the Scam schedule for next week but its designed to confuse. It says: A6 A66 M6 A66 B6542 A66 A6 whereas our local one would say:A4 Totterdown Bridge A370 Long Ashton Bypass
Highridge Green (among other areas for each day). Oh well, sounds par for the course for those nice Cumbrian Camera People.

1st Post... And on speed cameras! Hehehe

Watch out on the A66 going out of Keswick towards Penrith. There is a camera van that sits round a corner at the top of the crawler lane - They like to get people doing 70 trying to overtake lorries/coaches, when it is NOT yet a Dual carrigeway and so still a 60 limit!

Grrr.

That ist his fave spot. If you do get done.. make sure they put correct code endorsement. Two years ago - per the old scumbrain forum (which they closed as .. suprise suprise .. no one posting accepted what they said ...) this occurred. Everyone got SP60s und the submarinated one wondered why they were "steaming mad". It affected insurance loadings.. of course

He relies on people seeing the NSL signs und reading the road wrong. I did post that perhaps signage could reflect this to help people stay legal . In fairness, (und much as I would like to show disgust at this policy) - I ,have to say that he did, on this occasion, at least reply very civilly und fairly that "his hands were tied by legislation on this issue but did accept a valid point". Ist undfortunate - Europe does at least show a variable by having graphic of large vehicle in centre of its NSL lolly which does at least convey idea of a "variable" und this make sense really.

Kevin made announcement on local radio that it was a test "und nothing to worry about so long one was below 40 mph "

It did not reassure per the Gazette
