A huge bill for wasting the courts time?

or

A huge bill to increase compliance in paying the £60 fine?

Even his solicitor got (fined?) to pay some costs - I bet he didn't see that coming.

Any solicitor should know guidelines are not legally binding.

Having said that, how often do defence costs get awarded when it is the police who have been, how shall we put it, unecessarily obtuse?

Well, he didn't loose his licence as the time delay caused a few points to expire and avoided a ban. Mr Hayes probably thinks its worth the £3000 for that alone.

I completely agree.

It is there to detract the public from fighting their case and solicitors in fighting cases for them.

I have never heard of a solicitor being forced to pay costs!

I cannot understand how these costs added up, and would like to find out!

There are many cases of this (solicitor ordered to pay costs) - mainly where a solicitor has acted improperly or unreasonably. E.g. www.tmp.co.uk/case_law/a-f/casestdc.html#Acomp9
