56 in a 30 - what can I expect?!
Discussion
Google "speeding sentencing guidelines" and there is a PDF with all the guidelines. Would guess 3-6 points or up to 57 day ban with anything up to 1k fine.
Fine/points/ban increases/decreases depending on speeding circumstances, with far more circumstances potentially increasing the penalty.

I would never do that speed on in a 30. The road is very unusual as its wide and straight and isn't built up. It feels like a 40 or 50 and catches lots of people out. It was a mobile camera van.
It's almost like some roads are designed for the purpose. You see a nice bit of road, the Scamera Pratnerships see a revenue opportunity. Not sure saying it feels like a 40 or 50 is going to help much when you were doing 56 (and probably an indicated 60) though.

Not much help now, but for future ref, if they are there and there are no repeaters for a different limit, it's 30. no matter what the rest of the road looks like.

Should have clarified that pleading guilty should result in a lesser fine/points/ban but do not expect to have this reduction quantified prior to attending court.
Thank you for this but how do you know that? However, an early plea of guilty is seen as a positive for you as it reduces court time, witness time, etc.

I would love to have a go on one of these roads that catches you out. I assume that the road magically takes control of the car and presses the throttle pedal, or something. Cool!
Not helpful and we all do things sometimes ....I got caught doing 57 in a 30 by traffic police - no excuses at all just was being a dick. Sat me in the car, asked why I was doing it, told him the truth and he gave me some advise.
The officer said that they would take into account the fact the road was on an industrial estate, at night, no pedestrians around and that I was in a high powered car (whether the last bit hinders or helps is another matter). It was also noted that it was dry and that I showed no lack of control just high speed. I read the officers report which wasn't as scathing as it could have been, and showed that my vehicle was seen accelerating quickly to the speed I was caught at.
I received a courts summons that asked for my plea - I said Guilty. I was asked to give my mitigation/defence and put exactly what happened. You're then in the courts hands.
For what its worth I got 6 points and fine that equalled a weeks wages + court costs and a victims surcharge. Did I deserve a ban?
Possibly. Was a stupid thing to do and wont be repeated. Lesson learnt!

I think you'll get 6 points if you kiss arse.
Go in then start trying to justify that it wasn't really your fault and you don't really see any issue, I'd expect your attitude to get you more than 6 points.
Don't come across as you are in this thread or you'll get more than 6 points. Claiming everything other than yourself is the problem doesn't look good.

On a clean licence, probably 5 points and fine based on income, but maybe £400. If you present respectably and no previous then no need for a solicitor - it comes across better someone holding there hands up, hiding nothing but your call.
