Insurance query after bump
Discussion
Hi folks, just looking for some advice on behalf of the young apprentice in work.
He was on his way to work this morning, stuck in rush hour traffic going along at a snails pace when he bumped in to another car infront, he says this was no more than 2mph and knows he was in the wrong
He gets out to see the damage, none whatsoever, not even a mark on the dirt of either car.
The 2 folk in front stay in the car saying both their backs are sore and call the police and an ambulance.
The policeman says he knows they're at it but didn't want to get involved as it may end up in a careless driving charge for the apprentice, so they leave after the 2 folk leave in an ambulance.
Was just wondering what he does now, does he call his insurance and tell them everything or sit and wait on a call from them.
How far are these chancers likely to get, have the insurers clamped down on this yet.
Thanks.

He will hear from the other cars insurers. His insurance will skyrocket. The occupants of the other vehicle will receive c £2000 each for their injuries. That's what will happen. He was on his way to work this morning, stuck in rush hour traffic going along at a snails pace when he bumped in to another car infront, he says this was no more than 2mph and knows he was in the wrong

Just do what someone did to me and deny it ever happened, if there are no independent witnesses then nothing will happen.
A van reversed into my parked car (cracked bumper), didn't stop, I got the reg and pursued it but he completely denied it and the police/insurance company weren't interested after he said he wasn't involved.

If he had any sense he took a stload of pictures at every angle imaginable to show the absence of damage and skid marks. This will at least give him a chance of 50:50 and the rejection of the PI claims, otherwise as above unfortunately.

This probably would have worked if the police hadn't turned up. It also worked for some silly cow who drove into the back of me. When I got the insurance involved she just denied it ever happened. Insurance just believed her. Great idea, especially as the police already know the score. Commit fraud because someone once did it to you. Absolutely brilliant. What sound advice for the PH masses. I assume if someone mugs you then it's ok for you to go out and mug someone else?

I done this very thing. Lots of HD close up video of the rear bumper as well as lots of pictures showing no damage.Insurance still paid out. £500 for a full bumper respray and £1000 hire car charges because he got some invoices from his mates garage.

It was meant as a light hearted quip as I'm annoyed that 'the authorities' had no interest in helping me out when my car was left damaged in similar circumstances.I assume if someone mugs you then it's ok for you to go out and mug someone else?
Out of interest, as there is no damage to either vehicle and no injury could possibly be caused in an impact gentle enough to not even leave a mark in the dirt on either car, who would be getting defrauded?

Yeah I get the impression he's between a rock & a hard place, he got lots of pictures, he'll just need to wait and see I suppose.
Thanks
It's a lot cheaper for his insurance company to just pay out than to litigate in matters like this (and their aim is to save money, right?) - but he might get lucky and find his ins co decide to fight it .Thanks
It's his ins co have the final say, though.

So you desire the insurers to clamp down on this sort of thing but not the police to clamp down on your apprentice. The slower the bump the more careless he was He will need to report the accident to his insurance. Failure to do so is a breach of the terms in your insurance in most cases. It will also give him the chance to put his opinion of events across.
Denying it won't work as there will be police and ambulance reports.
Like others have said his best defence will be pictures and any eye witnesses he could have got in his favour.
In most cases whiplash doesn't occur until about 24 after the event. So likely they are on the fiddle as you say.
Try contacting your local council to see if the accident is caught on cctv.

Only those who leave in an ambulance due to your negligence should be compensated?A friend has a garage, guy brings in a shed of a car, needs so much work doing its an economical right off. My friend offers to buy some parts off the car. Customer says he will go out and get rear ended in car, insurance will pay for car and he will get compensation for whiplash. we were both shocked that this was seen as an option.
As I say there is a relatively new "insurance is for scamming culture".

I imagine they were upset about your inability to control your car.
I'm not a fan of the 'avoidance of personal responsibility' culture.

Maybe they were upset that does not translate to whiplash....I was in the vehicle which suffered no impact damage no one in my vehicle has suffered any whiplash...When involved in a collision the U.K. motorist suffers whiplash to a degree that no other driver in Europe does. For this to be the case and since we drive the same mass produced cars it must be the average speed of the collisions is considerably higher or the necks of the U.K. motorists/passengers are more susceptible to whiplash..or the burden of proof is so poor there is a mass culture of claim and get some money.I imagine they were upset about your inability to control your car.

It is strange that you can watch kart races where drivers are involved in collisions where the driver suffers much greater acceleration/deceleration accidents...but no one claims to have suffered whiplash...Then again there is no easy route to a financial payout
