The best speed camera detector
Discussion
You already have a pair of excellent ones.
Drive according to the speed limits & you should be fine.
Once you've got rid of some you can go back to driving as you like.
ETA relying on a detector is highly likely to result in you winning the prize. The sneaky bds move around

A satnav with an updated speed camera database is the best single device. You can combine that with a radar detector as well but they only detect GATSO type cameras (very useful on those managed motorways though). Laser jammers are illegal and you'll be in a lot of trouble if you're caught using them, although some are very very sophisticated and almost impossible for the police to spot. Those systems are very expensive though, and still not entirely foolproof.
Honestly I think some people have got nothing better to do than come on here and be clever c*nts.
You come on for simple question and you get aload of smart Alecs. It's supposed to be a petrol head site not a brake forum, slow down blah blah blah.
You don't know the circumstances and I expect lost have had a ticket or 3.
Most detectors if not all will only warn you when it's to late from laser.
I would get an app for your smart phone tomtom is free for a year on iPhone and you just need to reg a new email address to get another year free.
10 years ago I was in your position and it's not great but I have know how easy if you do a lot of miles you can rack up 1'2 and even 3 tickets in a short space of time got two weeks apart and only knew in the same few days,

Hi
Running on 9 points now so need to get a detector
What's the best one
Would you risk fitting a radar jammer too? Do they work?
Don't even go there mate, seriously.Running on 9 points now so need to get a detector

Jammers may be attempting to pervert the course of justice / whatever, and there just isn't a detector available for all the different kinds of scameras out there (or indeed a jammer for that matter).
Have a google as to how the different types work, it just isn't possible to detect or jam all of them ,without an invisibility cloak !
You are just going to have to drive like Miss Daisy for a while, and keep your wits about you if you choose not to.
There is no other choice available to you.

Because even a jammer isn't going to protect you from an unmarked car trickling up behind you

No but this will: Because even a jammer isn't going to protect you from an unmarked car trickling up behind you

I have something very similar that was built a long time back by one of the radio dudes at an F1 team I used to work for. I live in an area with a lot of single track lanes and it gives me a good miles notice that an ambulance or fire engine is inbound.... also spots Police cars but we don't have many of those around here!
It' very, very simple and just gives a signal strength reading based on recieving a transmission on 390.0125-394.9875Mhz or 380.0125-384.9875mhz - you can build one with bits from Maplin!

Edited to add, even if they do, I bet the fixed ones don't !

Imo detectors are worthless because they'll effectively be telling you when you're being pinged. By then, it's too late.
Jammers are, as noted, illegal.
TomTom or equivalent with those PocketGPSWorld speed camera location POIs is probably your best bet, but won't save you from new sites.
I don't think it's particularly harsh to point out that someone on 9 points ought to be observing the speed limits all of the time, or at least until 3 points come off, if keeping their license is important to them. It's a cold hard reality that anyone in that position has to admit. Asking for scamera detection tips implies the OP isn't able to stop themselves speeding.

It's a classic Pistonheads post:
"Hi all, I drive for a living, support me whole family and we live 900 miles from the nearest shops.
It's no lie to say that without a car we'd all starve to death.
Anyway, I drive like I've got my eyes closed and my trousers are on fire so I'm on 9 points, then today I got speed-gunned by two uniformed coppers standing by a marked police car, 140mph in a 30 limit - what do I need to say to keep my licence?"

Also on my way home I stopped for 3 hours in a 30 minute parking bay and got a ticket from a private parking company. How can I get it overturned?"Hi all, I drive for a living, support me whole family and we live 900 miles from the nearest shops.
