Does anyone feel bad about speeding?
Discussion
If I see pedestrians, I feel guilt - and slow down if I were moving on a pace.
But on these silly bits of dual carriage way that are now 30 or 40, after years of 60 or 70, then no.
The make it as socially unacceptable as drink driving idea hasn't worked for me, not when I see pointless reductions for no reason.
Anyone else?

I agree, I abide by the 30s and 40s, but anywhere else is as appropriate (and safe) as I feel...
I nearly had actual steam coming out of my ears on Tuesday as I was passing through a built up 30 zone when a woman in a Nissan Puke flew past me (40-50 IMO), then sat at 55 once we hit the NSL... Needless to say, she wasn't in front for long!

This is the daily norm, Your lucky they sit at 55, round here the max seems to be 47.I nearly had actual steam coming out of my ears on Tuesday as I was passing through a built up 30 zone when a woman in a Nissan Puke flew past me (40-50 IMO), then sat at 55 once we hit the NSL... Didn't work for anybody. It was only a bit of ego rubbing by ex Chief Con Nutter Brunstrom. He retired, failed to get the top police job on some Caribbean island, bought a boat and sailed off into the sunset. He's still out there on the ocean wave, I believe. Hope a shark doesn't get him.

Not at all, I never drive at a speed I deem inappropriate...the fact others may do is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned
Seems like a sensible answer.Given the amount of people who do stick exactly to the limit it seems that the "speed kills" message has been well indoctrinated to many in the population; given the number that do 45mph everywhere I think the message has been heard and stupidly interpreted by quite a few as well.

I stick to anything up to 50mph and drive defensively around town - better in one piece that being "right", but out in the sticks where I am putting myself only at risk - then I drive to the prevailing conditions. I don't feel "bad" for that.
How would you deal with this dichotomy then? - http://goo.gl/KqjwQyI drove along it the day before yesterday. The only other cars in sight were the occasional ones going the other way. Except for a couple of villages, where there is quite properly a 30mph limit, it runs the entire distance from here http://goo.gl/jDw22Q to here http://goo.gl/xKqrIN (note the upright signs which are obscured by the foliage! The prevailing conditions don't support a blanket 40mph limit imo. It made the journey unnecessarily tedious because 50mph would be sustainable and in no way dangerous. As a result I may or may not have crept over the number on the stick...
It's a prime example of certain counties (of which this is one) having an agenda to impose unnecessarily low limits on all of their rural roads where there is little to justify it. Judging by the speed of the cars coming the other way I suspect that many drivers see it as pointless and routinely ignore it. If so, the end result is actually counter productive.
I commute at 6am and 9pm (long day) on pedestrian free A-roads through fields that have been NSL my entire life up until last year when reduced to 50.
They have a couple of long well-sighted straights which are perfect for overtaking.
Now if I edge up to say 80, I could end up getting disqualified rather than the rap on the knuckles of the previous few decades.
No guilt - just self-preservation.
