Stopped On Motorway - No Paperwork/Ticket Given
Discussion
I was stopped for speeding on a motorway just over a month ago, wasnt shown any evidence other than the speed gun and calibration date & was sent on my way after being read my right etc but without any paperwork/ticket etc - is that the norm these days? When stopped for the same years ago I was shown video evidence and given a written ticket on the spot.

IIRC, you were served your NIP at the time. They have 6 months to decide whether or not to prosecuteOr something like that
Someone will be along shortly to clarify i expect!

I suspect that you were just read the riot act, and that's where it'll stop.Do you feel lucky?
Were you given a verbal NIP?
(Along the lines 'You are being reported for the question to be considered of prosecuting you for the offence of exceeding the speed limit')
What was the alleged speed & limit?
It is more usual now for you not to be issued a FPN etc at the time (i.e. where the officer decides the disposal outcome at the time), but for the officer to complete a TOR (Traffic Offence Report - for another in an office to decide on the disposal decision at a later date & then inform you through the post).

You were shown the speed gun and calibration date...what more would you have liked? The speed gun would have had the speed on it no doubt. The officer has most probably completed a Traffic Offence Report and you will hear of the action the police intend to take in due course.
If you were going a a speed that was higher than those that can be dealt with by fixed penalty or you are already on 9 points then it will take a whicle to raise a summons. Above 95 on the motorway and you are going to be dealt with at court. Trafic officers usually deal with high speeds so what speed has attracted the attention of the officer dealing with you?
